"You don't turn the Titanic around overnight" has been really bugging me because a) yes you can and b) you definitely should, that was the main problem

In the grand scheme of problematic things, his Titanic gaffe is only the tip of the iceberg. Much like the Titanic’s main issue in fact.

Dunno about the Titanic, but it takes 20-30 mins to turn a supertanker around 180 degrees. Problem is Newton, whose law says it will 'skid' forwards even as it's turning, so for a while it will be going sideways, and even backwards. Needs an awful lot of searoom, too.

Titanic’s sea trials had her turn 180 in about 5-6 minutes. It’s honestly hard to grasp how much bigger today’s cruise ships and supertankers are.

If elsewhere he'd also said that Rome wasn't built on a sixpence then it'd be a genius joke. And tbh I might start using it as a phrase now.

But also, some research indicates that it may have been better for them to hit the iceberg dead on while trying to slow down. Which also relates, since all this pointless pivoting into even more expensive live service gambles instead of building a new ship and crew to explore other directions.

I was told this at an exit interview for a job I quit after years of documenting internal crises and trying to get HR to intervene. “Are we on the Titanic?” I asked. She sighed, shuffled some papers around.

Probably shouldnt have claimed to be able to turn it around if you cannot. Thats the politicians issue. They claim to do something in a day and a year later they use that tired old excuse of it taking time. They only got elected because they said they would fix something straight away.

i mean they could have just stopped the engines until they could have better light? they didn't even need to turn it around (and probably shouldn't, given currents).

When this came up the other day, I pointed out that it famously made a 90 degree turn over just a couple hours. Of course, that's not even the funniest bit, what with him making the US economy "The Titanic" in this analogy.

I’ve always hated the phrase “turning circle of a supertanker” a supertanker at full speed can turn full circle in 3-5 times its own length…. Try to do that in a car and you’re rolling over to await a visit from a firefighter with jaws of life.

Also, the S.S. Trump has already struck the iceberg. She's taking on water and it doesn't matter if she changes course, steams ahead, or comes to a full stop. She's going down.

Really? You are still trying to figure out the words of an abject moron? All I needed was the source. God I'm tired of the stupid. It makes you crazy, doesn't it? Yet I, too, can't look away. Even though I already voted.

The issue was they should have "slowed the titanic down". At lower speeds they could have spotted the iceberg and steered around it, and even if they had hit it, the damage would not have fatally breached the ship's hull.

exactly, captain didn’t make good decision so it crashed and sank, killing almost everyone, just like both Trump terms. They are just proving the rest of us right but too ignorant to even know it smdh. Sad!

What I like about the political Discourse in this country is the fact that you have to have strong opinions about the decor of chain restaurants and marine navigation
