Time for my semi-regular likely futile question: Do any of you know of any paying horror markets that accept novelettes (roughly 17-18K, in this case)? It's a combination mystery horror and folk horror, with a little bit of body horror and just a sprinkle of what might be cosmic.

Not only is the amazing Bitter Guy in this anthology, but yours truly has been working on a short piece about a very obscure little cult film that happened to star Bruce Willis at the height of his career; yet bombed utterly.

We live in an era where this is probably true but also it could not be. I mean, award nominated Mubi movies don't pay the bills.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

So last night I watched a pair of documentaries about comedians. The first was I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not, which does its best to make a shameless, unrepentant asshole seem like an okay, misunderstood guy. I don't know him, but I think I wasn't up to buying that line.

There was a gag on SNL UK last night with a fake trailer for a movie called "The Cher Witch Project" which was very funny and holiday relevant. Of course, I went to YouTube to look it up and it turns otu that gag has been done a bunch of times over the lifetime of the platform. Which is good,

She at no point in unaware of herself and her flaws. She's amazingly generous with her time and her money, as her collaborators frequently mention. She's the rarest thing, a combination of someone who is a generational talent and a decent human being. I can't wait to see her in Hamilton in December.

The contrast of the two is a little astounding. Especially a week after I saw You Can See Everything, a doc where Fielder and Oppenheim are quite enthusiastically saying that the form is a fallible and fragile one. I think I trust Apatow and Berkley and feel sympathy for Zenovich.

but I just want to point out he's never appeared on Only Murders in the Building with his two co-stars from that movie. Chase lacks any sort of awareness of who he is and what he's done to people. I mean, John Carpenter wanted to give up filmmaking after working with him.

The other film I watched was Paralyzed by Hope the Maria Bamford story. Bamford is such a polar opposite of Chase. She is wracked by almost crippling mental illnesses and has found herself frequently institutionalized for her own protection. Yet she's still one of the funniest comedians alive.

I mean, it's odd how how none of his co-workers ever came onscreen to say "Chevy is not the asshole he's spent his entire career pretending to be onscreen and off (and in this actual documentary you're now watching)". Martin Short seemed to have fond memories of working with him on The Three Amigos

The WORST way is to, mid dinner, mention you don't particularly care for the film, at which point I'll take a deep breath, raise my palms and say "Oh, you see, the thing is..." and that's gonna cost us both an hour or so and I've already written this.

We come back to the idea of Execs who really don't understand art or why people make art, in any way, finding ways to absolutely annihilate those that do, in a death of a thousand cuts and then one big 400-person cut. It's heartbreaking. The western games industry kills a NIntendo every year.

US garment workers helped pioneer multi-ethnic labor unions, which united people across racial, religious, gender, linguistic, and cultural divides. Also native-born citizens and immigrants. I think about that sometimes when I see people suggest such divides are unbridgeable.
