So let’s talk about the A340-600. Last year, when Lufthansa announced they were retiring them for good, a group of avgeek friends & I talked about going for a joy ride last hurrah Life got in the way, which is understandable. But come on - only a dozen or so left & its days are numbered!

If you like really nerdy, really detailed (sometimes kind of long) aviation reporting, you’re going to want to take advantage of this

I have always had a small but close group of friends. The quantity (& quality) of those friendships has ebbed & flowed - esp in adulthood. I never would have thought my 40s would be dominated by some of the greatest friendships of my life. People who just love me for me. Goodness, how lucky I am.

Proof of life!! Was great to see a Jason on the mend for lunch today

We’re so back, folks! Thanks to everyone who was concerned, it’s all looking good from here on out. I even got lunch with @themiddleseatview.bsky.social today! A great way to go back outside for the first time in basically a few weeks.

This is weird to say, but I have been so surprised to see the Christmas markets going up and store decorations going up. I guess it is almost that time of year. I just feel like I totally lost track

Incredible to be a part of this special flight. The crew was fantastic and the people onboard were quite special, including one person who made their own A340-600 flag and the others who brought a full sheet cake. And stick around for the @byerussell.com cameo near the end!

Join us aboard the final Lufthansa A340-600 flight from Washington to Frankfurt. We get stunning views of take off and landing from the flight deck, chat with the crew about what makes the aircraft and final flight special, and enjoy the end of an era. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJGl...

A tale of two flights, which were both basically leaving at the same time tonight, flying ORD-DCA. I was on one, my friend Greg is on the other. Presented without comment on ORD operational efficiency #ChicagosHometownAirline

Agreed! I am only too delighted for you to read a library copy of THE AIRPORT — in all its deceptive* mind-melting** joy of travel — to a small person in your life! *some people are very mad that little Melinda has two dads *Kirkus had a meltdown about all the skin tones, I regrettably kid you not

Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

Fact: Having an AI enabled bot in your house is kinda sketch. Also fact: if you ask your Alexa bot to play you “hype music,” it will play the following 4 songs in order: 1. Eye of the Tiger 2. Danger Zone 3. We Will Rock You 4. The Rocky theme LETS GO

This is it, the Quality Train Content™ I’ve always wanted to post. A BNSF freight train passing through Everett, WA with several Boeing greenies on their way from Wichita, Kansas to Renton to become 737s!

A last-minute FAA safety review of an FMS software glitch ahead of the impending 737 Max 10 cert revealed that U.S. airlines have all been skipping the latest updates. I wanted to understand why. The answer is exploration of this industry's incredible complexity. (no paywall)
