Three years ago, three other reporters and I ID'd and called any school accused of having litter boxes for furries. We found one (1) in the entire country: Columbine's school district. Cat litter was for a "go bucket," in case kids were locked in during a shooting. www.nbcnews.com/tech/misinfo...

The "F.U.R.R.I.E.S ACT" bill from Stan Gerdes (R-Smithville) would prohibit "non-human behavior" in Texas schools, including but not limited to: -Litterboxes -Tails -"Leashes, collars, other accessories designed for pets" -"Barking, meowing, hissing, or other animal noises" -"licking oneself"

if a major politician held an emergency rally about the current ongoing coup by the richest man in the world, I think people would go to it. Shit is well and truly fucked. I can think of a couple of people who should do that right now.

I am nonbinary. The gender that no longer officially exists in the United States. I was offered the chance to change my gender designation to "X" on my passport and driver's license in 2023. I decided not to and here's why.

Replying to @annaleen.bsky.social

So now I have an "F" on my passport and my driver's license. When historians look at government records centuries from now, they will think I was a woman. This is what it means to be made invisible, to have your history stolen from you.

okay so in the top left corner hit file and then go down to export. what do you mean you can’t see it? like the whole screen is black? is the computer on? okay turn the computer on. okay. mom I don’t know your password. mom. mom. why did you bring me into this world mom.

I am open to tattooing this on my forehead. Or putting it on a shirt. Or something

how hard can it possibly be to understand that LLMs are not good for information retrieval

Early on in our relationship, I was driving somewhere with my partner and his mom. When we got out, the wind caught my car door. I apologized and his mom said, “For what?” I explained I didn’t mean to slam the door. Her response sticks with me to this day: “Don’t apologize for making noise!”

I keep reading that this is a place for kinder people, but gentle souls have always been among us. We just couldn’t hear them anymore. Perhaps our gathering here is proof that we missed those voices. What a wonderful thing to believe about ourselves. It can be a bold move to choose kindness.

Perhaps a reason my partner and I get along so well is that we’re definitely on the same page regarding murder. More specifically, we both do not condone or commit murder.

Octopus/Caveman@octopuscaveman.bsky.social

It’s so shocking to me whenever I hear about couples that murder together. I can’t even find someone that likes the same shows I like.

Recently I found a hack to keep my shoulders in place and ease some pain from their hypermobility. I am just baffled that some people’s bodies naturally keep their shoulders in place like this. It’s so much more comfortable and I’m very jealous of you people with your normally-mobile joints

“knowledgeable population” hehe

Holy shit. Did you see the letter Olivia Troye’s attorney sent to Kash Patel after he threatened to sue her for defamation? Troye, a former Homeland Security advisor, had the BEST response.

Getting to work with Sigourney was a bucket list item checked off. And holy shit is she everything you want her to be. Huge science fiction lover, obsessed with the nuances of the writing. Working with her was a dream. 14/10 would recommend.

I am a big Broadway fan so yes I saw and loved Wicked. But I am also very exhausted by the amount of existing IP we continue to regurgitate (looking at Marvel). I love original and new creativity. It is refreshing and celebrates more artists rather than just being a cash grab.

One thing you will never think after reading a great book or listening to a great album or seeing a great piece of art is, “I’m really glad this person remained cautious while they were making this and guarded against being perceived as weird.”

I’m not currently reading Agatha Christie by a crackling fireplace on a snowy day whilst indulging in multiple cups of tea and freshly-baked scones, so no, I’m afraid your email didn’t “find me well”.

The thing about "A.I." in art and writing and health insurance decision making and customer service and government services and a million other things... is that it sucks. And people are very very very tired of stuff that sucks.

Hope is not a mistake. It may turn out wrong, your hopes may not come to fruition, but never feel you were wrong for having them. They are a sign that you aspired to something better, something greater. That is glorious, and no mistake.

It is also important that fishing not be the main objective of the game. I need to slack off on the actual quest to just go fishing for awhile instead. That’s the best video game fishing

Shoutout to fishing in video games That shit rules

I will even settle for the entire bookshelf rotating 180 degrees and dropping me on the other side in a secret tunnel of rooms!

The Whimsical Muse@whimsicalmuse.bsky.social

At the end of the day, don’t we all just want to pull a book from a bookshelf and find that it reveals a hidden room?

Amazon might deliver 'convenience', but it can’t replicate the magic of stepping into a quiet bookstore on a rainy day, where the scent of old pages mingles with fresh coffee and every shelf holds the promise of a new adventure waiting to be discovered.

the reason this is important is that Trump has sold his re-election as proof that he is a god-king above all consequence who can do anything he wants already losing two nominations proves that is not true, and the sooner we can puncture that narrative and brand him a hubristic failure the better

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

Normally, a president-elect having one major nominee withdraw before confirmation hearings even begin and several more seemingly about to follow suit would be a pretty big deal. We’d get headlines about a troubled transition, how the incoming administration was not ready for prime time, etc.

Besides having incredibly thoughtful curations of books, my local bookstores also have the cutest calendars, stickers, journals, knick knacks, and such. So many great little gifts, stocking stuffers, secret santa gifts, etc.! Give local businesses your discretionary funds any way you can 🗣️🗣️

Happy Giving Tuesday! We're doing a new thing at Good.Store where you can buy a care package for a person in a domestic violence shelter. We've been working with shelters in Montana for a while and we're super excited about this: good.store/products/car...

good.storeGood Store - Care Package for Domestic Violence SurvivorsWe all have at least one person on the gifting list who doesn't want a physical gift, but that doesn't mean you don't have to get them anything at all. The Care Package in Your Honor is a way to gift ...

These should not be noteworthy headlines. I think we need to normalize having informed opinions, even when that means saying “I don’t know” to give us time to process and research. We need MORE journalists doing this but these headlines surely discourage that.

I want to write about something very stupid that happened to me yesterday. I don’t want to do it in a self-serving way but I do think it illustrates a good point. As the pardon news broke I was asked a question about it and I didn’t have a clear answer so I just said I had to think about it.

Let’s be clear about something, if you aren’t willing to defend yourself, nobody is going to do it for you. Don’t demand from others what you won’t do for eachother. We aren’t a service or heroes, this isn’t a marvel movie. We just are, what we are, whenever we need to be, wherever it may be.
