Just sitting with the fact that the data centre industry's top guy in Ireland took some time out of his day to see how many books Sally Rooney had sold, and then checked how many carbon emissions that represented, and thus imagined that he had alighted on an excellent point.
"So Sally Rooney has published six and a half million books - that's quite a lot of books, well done - but that's about 15,000 tonnes of emissions." Ireland's data centre industry boss has lashed out at writer Sally Rooney for her opposition to the sector www.thejournal.ie/sally-rooney...

Show me your budget, and I'll tell you your policies.
Throughout the entire Fare Hike saga, Government maintained this was a decision by the NTA We now know it was the Dept of Public Expenditure & it was decided 12 months ago Government lied to to the public, the did it repeatedly, & they did it intentionally

Ireland has some responsibility on this. One of the greatest contributions we could be making to collective EU & global democracy & security (far more useful then disastrous attempts to remove the triple lock) would be having the courage to step up to our role as digital regulator in a serious way.
Lula: "We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. A crime in the digital world must be treated the same as a crime in the real world. We cannot have monstrous companies earning millions... not paying taxes... wanting to steer elections."

To be clear, "we" [i.e., IE Govt] are not actually engaged in any serious good faith *attempt* to end our fossil fuel dependency in any meaningful time frame. Always watch what "we" do, not what "we" say.
Ending Ireland's dependence on gas and oil is proving painfully slow www.irishtimes.com/environment/...

*and i get that there is a real issue with kids being injured on e-scooters - not discounting that - but where the hell are all the news reports on them having all of their space stolen. bsky.app/profile/tomf...
www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2026... I'm none the wiser after reading this. A succession of average (mean) salaries for various professions, with caveats of "but of course this doesn't tell us the full picture", but no discussion of *median* salaries which might be a lot more revealing.

I remind you again that, when asked about EU states relying on US tech companies, subject to US Government whims, Ireland’s Minister for Enterprise said he’d not heard any concerns raised about this in Europe.
🚨🚨 Schocking betrayal but there it is. Sources confirm that the order to limit #starshield for #ukraine's battle operations came from inside the #whitehouse and by logical extension from #trump himself. www.reuters.com/world/europe...

Today a man high on meth juggling chainsaws in a childrens' playground killed 2 and injured 10. Commenting on the tragedy, Sean Canney says it's the responsibility of everyone using playgrounds to look after their own safety.
www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm... Ciarán Cannon nails it in this article. Canney is the worst road safety minister we’ve ever had. He still uses “accidents” in interviews (including when responding to the recent appalling, deliberate wrong-way motorway collision).

Apparently another self driving car kills in Ireland. Weird how the motorist, the person controlling the car is not mentioned at all.

"Mind-boggling that there's so much demand for cycling and yet such a lack of infrastructure to keep them safe", is what was said - in a parallel universe where we have leaders who actually listen to evidence and care about public health and safety. A girl can dream.
“Mind-boggling” volume of cyclists in Dublin says Senator; as Fianna Fáil Seanad leader calls for high-vis and helmets to be mandatory One Senator called for bikes to be taken off people who did not have high-vis or helmets, and it prompted Fianna Fáil's leader in the Seanad to call for mandatory…
