his entire defense is basically "yeah i wanted to murder them for annoying me, fuck you this is america" and the entire thing is both-sidesing it. what

truly a wild time to be alive when the cryptography world is split between those worried about quantum computers and those whose private key is “4”

Guys. It really *is* time for some game theory.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

steve is concerned with the implications of all of this for the judiciary but, with all genuine respect, i really think that one has to approach this as a problem of game theory

To be clear we don't understand this at all but we think a really confident dumb guy will know what to do

If we take "the proposal" to mean "closing some schools to meet minimum enrollment standards in the remaining ones," I think you sort of have to agree. Also true most people don't seem to & that's wild. But a narrower, "they insufficiently explained the rational for the specifics" I could cosign.

Brad Baker@bradmbak.bsky.social

I understand why people are upset but I think the PPS proposal is reasonable given the circumstances.

it's already true that anyone not listing Franklin as one of the three who discovered the structure of DNA is a hack or a rube, but this is a cool addition to the understanding of this time

there is some very useful early discussion and framing in the stochastic parrots paper. But the parrot itself is pining for the Norwegian fjords.

Will Oremus@willoremus.com

or if it is parroting, it's stretching the bounds of your conventional understanding of that term so far as to render it misleading. parrots cannot solve complex problems, self-interrogate and self-correct, search the web and extract relevant information, etc. etc.

“Appeared in the print edition as 'Portland Rents Finally Are Affordable.’” It’s fine for journalists to dwell on the bad news, but I hope Portlanders & their leaders understand there’s an alternative PDX where this doughnut shop worker & her kids *didn’t* find a $1600 market-rate 3-bedroom.

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano

Effective immediately we are changing how we refer to the music on my kids' playlists. We will no longer call Shawn Mendes "Kirkland Signature Ed Sheeran," instead we will move to calling Sheeran "Spineless Shawn Mendes." Thank you for your attention to this matter.

having to watch Stancil and a bunch of people who still say "stochastic parrot" independently reinvent watered down versions of p-zombies and the Chinese room is going to be what drives me off of the internet

what a disturbing story. every time you think you've plumbed the depths of what young men get up to, you discover a new, deeper hole.

Ej Dickson@ejdickson.bsky.social

There is a corner of the internet I had never heard of before I started reporting this story. It’s called the “burnerverse”: a network of anon burner accounts ostensibly discussing college sports. But they have another goal: destroying young girls’ lives.🧵: www.wired.com/story/burner...
