I discovered that there’s an All Party Parliamentary Group with specific responsibility for the publishing sector. It appears not to meet. Well, since 2025. Not that there’s been anything worth discussing since then.

I appear to be embarking on a series of fights with my employer on several fronts, matters of principle, and/or plain beligerence and poor management. Hexes welcome.

Flagging for @nick-barreto.com and for the nostalgia. We Tell Stories was an utter delight, and genuinely groundbreaking.

In 2008, Six to Start made We Tell Stories for Penguin Books: six experimental online stories by six authors in six weeks. It won Best of Show at SXSW Interactive and ended up in MoMA. With the 20th anniversary approaching, I wrote about how we built it...

Even if you have no intention of reading TWiSTED PIKE, do yourself a favour and read this review because it's just a wonderful piece of writing.

David Barnett sends a film crew back to Withered Hill in Twisted Pike, and the folk horror village is far too happy to see them. A five-star close to his Canelo run. https://gnofhorror.com/david-barnett-twisted-pike-review/ @davidmbarnett.bsky.social @canelobooks.bsky.social

this, and your day is more complete:

This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it to me late one night, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #BookSky

I intened to spend a decent portion of my morning figuring out the narrative consequences and pre-episode causality of ███ ████████ ███████ ██ ██████ ████ ███ ███ █████ the Devil's Sound.

Noted without comment.

“Bad news for publisher HarperCollins: The book-buying subset of MrBeast fans appears to be vanishingly small. Two people close to the project say The Most Dangerous Games is on track to be a historic bomb…”

Amen.

I saw this opening night with Kathy Acker. We were literally the only people who came out of the theater happy. But time has proven that we were right and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me is a classic. So, fuck all those whiners, especially Quentin Tarantino who should take every opportunity to shut up

This was a lynching. And you can quote me on that.

I'm sorry... 'Prof Gone'? They made a man's sacking the main news story for weeks as the country went on fire, which might have contributed to his death and 'Prof Gone'? This is the same clique that wept & wailed for a week when we dared mention their dinner party pal was a wife beating nonce.

Many years ago, when I first started writing for The Dark Side (Britain's oldest horror mag) we had a bit of a friendly pub quiz rivalry with Empire magazine for a while. We kept losing though. Until one week we discovered a secret weapon. /1

We built Lynchverse, a research archive for David Lynch’s films. Analysis, symbolism, soundtracks and recurring ideas, organized film by film. Still growing, so feedback is very welcome. #DavidLynch @markfrost.bsky.social #TwinPeaks #InlandEmpire #LostHighway #MulhollandDrive lynchverse.com

Here a compilation of stupid things library consultants have said to me in solidarity with library pals at Lambeth Libraries where genius consultants has decided that a qualified head of library service post isn't really essential.

chapter in @scottmeslow.bsky.social's A Place Both Wonderful and Strange (recommended reading btw). The day stretches out in front of me, and there are pages for a book (that isn't a book) coming together on the desk beside this laptop. It's a good day. Final note. I'm 57 years old. (cont)

I'm (three days in) Professor of Narrative Technologies. I'm an artist and a writer. Neither of those last two would be true if I hadn't seen Twin Peaks in 1990. Thanks David (vale). Thanks @markfrost.bsky.social. I'll see you in the branches that blow.

(to elaborate a little) The Naked Eye collective screened Fire Walk With Me at Bristol's Southbank centre last night. Preceeded by a 45 minute set of experimental improvised sound (definitely inspired by Lynch, but all it's own too). Then the film. I hadn't seen it projected since 1993, and (cont)

as then, this time around the sound was LOUD. (although the Pink Room doesn't need subtitles - personal opinion). There are films you watch, and films you experience, and this was the latter. Monday morning, and I have a cup of coffee (black as midnight on a..) and have just read the FWWM (cont)

"Do the thing you can do instead of beating yourself up over not doing the thing you're not doing" is honestly life-changing, even life-saving, advice.

This concept was introduced to me as "run the dishwasher twice" and was an important part of my executive functioning recovery as well as my path to self-acceptance.
