I'm hearing that Roberts actually described Ohtani as "Adam Ant", saying "He don't drink, don't smoke, what do he do? You know? Subtle innuendos follow. That's all I'm saying. There must be something inside."

Dave Roberts said he spoke with Shohei Ohtani today, who said he was "adamant" that he feels good enough to stay in the lineup and turn it around. Ohtani will be in the lineup again in Game 3.

Look, the somewhat hyperbolic tendency to label everyone we disagree with politically as a Nazi can be overly simplistic, and the lack of nuance can overshadow a real discussion on issues. Other times, army leadership rolls out "Fascist Command!"

Al: So here comes Bundy into the game for the first time. You've all heard the Ted Bundy story, we don't need to go into it. Kirk: Dealt with a lot of adversity, and it's inspiring to see him face that adversity head on. Good looking guy too! Al: No kidding! So Bundy under center, 3 receiver set.

MLB Payroll Ranks in the Division Series: Rays (27) vs. Yankees (3) Braves (9) or Phillies (4) vs. Dodgers (1) Brewers (19) vs. Padres (8) ChiSox (26) vs. Guardians (29) But let's impose a salary cap so there can be parity!

In writing this and talking to Mets past and present, it kinda feels like Pete’s presence was a huge component of what the Mets were missing this season.

Arte Moreno bought the Angels in 2003 (the year after they won the Series) for $184 million. He then spent 23 years running them into the ground, let the stadium decay, wasted Trout and Ohtani, and sold for $4 billion. And the owners are crying poverty and threatening to kill baseball next year.

Good for Robert Stock getting out of that jam while throwing a scoreless game against a first-place team with his spot in the rotation effectively on the line. Just a huge win for 30-somethings who spend way too much time on the baseball internet.

NYM 13 CLE 6 Final The Mets hit three more homers. Not since 2015 have they looked this improved after the deadline. The sweep of Cleveland is New York's first since the final days of May. The Mets are 50-66.

Yikes. What this tells you, is to so many people in the know in baseball, is that defense really just isn't that important.

Luis Arraez will play 2B for Phillies. First choice appears to be: Stott to 3rd. Bohm to 1st. Harper to RF. Bryce has said he’s willing to go back to the OF. @MattGelb on Arraez/2B
