Heading over to Comicon for today’s event with @garthnix.bsky.social and @qntm.org and the Elizabeth line has blown my mind - last time I came out this way it didn’t exist, and it took a couple of days & some complex haggling with a creature under a bridge to cross London

Think I’ve just missed the Solaris bus*, but I’ll also be heading up to Fcon tomorrow for a couple of panels, looking forward to seeing everyone 🍻 *if it’s anything like the Vengabus, I can hopefully rejoin it in a wide range of cities

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).

Genre rules are only guidelines anyway! Want some Dragons in your Western? A locked boat murder mystery in your sci-fantasy? GBBO in outer space? A Necromantic bildungsroman? Searing examinations of war with bonus military Pteranodons? A literal plot device? We've got all that and more! 1/3

A museum that existed before classical Greece or Rome, displaying artifacts as old to them as Roman artificats are to us...

In 1925, archaeologist Leonard Woolley was excavating the temple complex at the ancient city of Ur. That's the ziggurat in the background. As the excavation proceeded, he found something quite surprising: artifacts hundreds of years older than Ur itself. Let's talk about the oldest known museum.

If you missed our latest Worldbuilding workshop, do check it out. We fleshed out the culture of one of our species pretty thoroughly, exploring their language and religion, and how this would feed into our ongoing plot. @tomtoner.bsky.social will return after the summer for the next installment!

Honestly incredible stuff but this made me gasp: "For $100 million a year we can get clean oceans,” he said. This is less than the annual marketing budget of most major consumer goods companies that produce the plastic The Ocean Cleanup is pulling from the sea. techfixated.com/young-invent...

My wife had gone into TK Maxx & I was loitering for a while next to this bin when I first had the idea for the Immeasurable Heaven sometime in 2018. I always make time for a bit of loitering now - you never know when you’ll come up with something that drains your lifeforce, vampire-like, for years

Two notebooks filled, so time to turn the sod on this fantasy novel & begin the actual typing of it. Always some false starts at this stage as I try to work out where to enter the story, then of course I need to stop and take essential photos of my laptop, and by then the day’s pretty much over

Having so much fun writing my first ever fantasy novel. This is the one project I’ve been putting off for years, tinkering with notes but always thinking I needed to wait for the right time to begin in earnest. But bugger it - now’s as good a time as any to lose yourself in something you love doing
