Greetings Bluesky! I’m Caspar, and my completely non-human space opera THE IMMEASURABLE HEAVEN is out July with Solaris. I've published some fairly out-there SF under another name, but this was a very different animal that took 7 years off & on to write. Here’s a peek inside if you’re interested.

As a Wealden theropod specialist, I'm pretty excited about the publication of #Invictibellatrix by @cretaceous-cass.bsky.social Morrison et al., a new theropod from the Wessex Formation of the Isle of Wight argued to be the first European megaraptoran. I wasn't involved in the research, but .... 1/n

Think I’ve just missed the Solaris bus*, but I’ll also be heading up to Fcon tomorrow for a couple of panels, looking forward to seeing everyone 🍻 *if it’s anything like the Vengabus, I can hopefully rejoin it in a wide range of cities

Malcolm was my boss for seventeen years and a very good friend for every one of those years. He scaled the heights of mainstream publishing but was always a tireless advocate for, and fan of, SFF. He was constant, gracious, very funny and a brilliant publisher. The genre owes him so much. Go well.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).

A few years ago I went to a pig sanctuary and most of the pigs were stoned from eating green acorns. This one, Wilbur, couldn’t stand up and was too big to lift, so the staff had to leave him in this bush and wait for him to sober up.

autumn is fast approaching which means it's time for pannage: the ancient commoner's right of taking your pigs to the forest to feast on fallen acorns, chestnuts, and beechmast

Alien of the Day: A martian fox critter! Its large ears can detect sound in the thin atmosphere, while its ears and tail both help keep it warm during the Martian nights, with thin legs adapted to the low gravity. From the Picture Atlas of our Universe; a favourite book of mine as a kid.

Genre rules are only guidelines anyway! Want some Dragons in your Western? A locked boat murder mystery in your sci-fantasy? GBBO in outer space? A Necromantic bildungsroman? Searing examinations of war with bonus military Pteranodons? A literal plot device? We've got all that and more! 1/3
