Trump kicked millions off health insurance while failing to check inflation & hiking gas prices so uninsured forego care or end up in ERs racking up unpaid bills & hospital profits fall & they raise rates on the insured & insurers hike premiums - a hell spiral. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/30/b...

Went to a Juneteenth event last night — an interfaith thing among local churches my wife helped with. Learned a bunch I didn’t know. Among what I learned — that Owen Brown, John Brown’s son, became a big local figure in Pasadena and his grave up on a mountain is still a popular hike.

Christ, you're the governor of the entire state. Shut the building down. It's not sovereign territory like a foreign embassy. Pull the certificate of occupancy. Cut the power. Back it up with state police. Stop coddling fascists and groveling every time they order you around. Act like an American.

US Attorney Andrew Boutros is currently scrambling to save his own skin in front of the district court over the Broadview 6 issue. How open will he be to pursuing this?

Dorothy Barker reposted

Per CNN this was referred to the us attorney’s office in Chicago. That is the same office currently being turned upside down by prosecutorial misconduct in the the Broadview 6 case. I’m sure judges in the Northern District of Illinois would look kindly on this kind of adventurism right now

If they secure an indictment against Carroll, she will file a whopper of a motion to dismiss for selective/vindictive prosecution. (A district judge just dismissed Kilmar Abrego Garcia's prosecution for that reason; DOJ will likely appeal.) www.cnn.com/2026/05/27/p...

I can tell you a version of American history as a startup company. Let's call it by it's ticker symbol, USA. USA launched in a move-fast, break-things mode. It shipped tons of products (a central bank; territorial expansion) and attracted lots of users . . .

Democrats need to accept that they're entering a new era of procedural Total War. This includes a big escalation in redistricting, but it's not limited to that. If Republicans don't like it, tough shit: They made this world, and they are the ones inflicting it on us. newrepublic.com/article/2098...

I mean, why not? US conservatives have been maintaining for decades that there should be NO federal social safety net. Now they're getting what some of them wanted and what the rest THOUGHT they wanted.

Earlier this week, I had the honor of breaking fast at Rikers Island with New Yorkers in custody. It was a night that will stay with me for quite some time.   In a system too often defined by what it takes, I was reminded of what it means to give—mercy, dignity, and humanity.
