I built some notable pieces of web 1.0, including some services/sites that you probably used if you're old enough. Now I'm getting very grumpy about what our creation has become.

What I really wanted in tonights #MNF was for each team to have two completely embarrassing safeties (Dak steps on the back line of the end zone. Philly commits another holding penalty), and have the game end in a 4-4 tie. That does not seem to be how it's going to go.

On one hand, I had a dreadful day of fantasy football. On the other hand, I literally left zero points on the bench.

The cameras are very notably tightly focusing on the white Longhorns fans in the crowd in Austin tonight, instead of showing the broader collection of Texans who are all here to support their team. This timeline is just dumb.

This is important. Trump is a racist fool, but he's not an outlier. All Republican candidates have had racist policies and campaigns, for at least a generation -- they just were better at saying the quiet parts quietly. Lee Atwater's life was (thankfully?) short, but his legacy lives very very long

Jamison Foser@jamisonfoser.bsky.social

Reagan talked about welfare queens in Cadillacs, Trump talks about Somalian thieves in Mercedes Benzes, because being *real* racist has been a core strategy Republican politicians for a very long time, even if prior to Trump a lot of folks who should have known better enjoyed pretending otherwise.

Well, of course. Racism is a core Republican voter value. Trump ain't the problem. He's a symptom of your neighbors' hate.

Oh look, another Arch Manning interception. And then the defense saves his ass again. Seriously, without the pedigree, he'd be a 2nd stringer on a non-top-25 team. He's just not that good.

This CD was stolen from my car in the 90s, and I never replaced it. I mean, I downloaded the MP3s of it from the original napster or some DCC server, so I could still listen. MFers at RIAA still claim that was theft, and I say that I was just stealing back what was rightfully mine to begin with.

I know someone who saw Doeren unable to badge in to WB (the athletic facility) at State an hour ago, we now know why.

As expected, here's the appeal to Michigan's closeted racist population. They've already got the out and proud bigots. Watch for the incoming "i can't bring myself to vote for someone like him" ads this week.

just saw this absolutely cracked ad during the michigan game about how thanks to aoc and ilhan omar, white people can't show their faces in public anymore

Not a single word of this is hyperbolic in the slightest. Buy your friends in cybersecurity the drink or chocolate of their choice right now. We are not doing well

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

I do not like Chainguard. You cannot get me to say a single positive thing about them as a company. Leaking a critical vulnerability in violation of an embargo is outrageous behavior even for them and they absolutely know better.

Holy fuck, this is very bad.

nightshade →home, for now@nightshade.technology

details leaked. this vulnerability is a full unauthenticated unconditional remote code execution exploit against any service running on a PHP version from 5.4 until latest yeah if anything deserves CVSS 11, this is it. this is CATACLYSMICALLY bad.

New Orleans would like a word.

“Does Ukraine think the successor CEO in the event of Musk’s sudden and untimely death will behave this erratically” is not something I’d want anyone in Ukraine to be thinking if I were Musk

Just like when Antifa sent a pipe bomb to a civil war reenactment? Checks notes... oh right, that was a right-wing nutjob from Virginia who got kicked out of his re-enactment battalion for being too racist. He got 9 years in jail for the bomb: www.justice.gov/usao-wdva/pr...

DSA fans really need to update your priors about DSA- which is now dabbling in anthrax attacks against Dem members of Congress

This post is from more than a year ago. It's maybe becoming more relevant than anyone wants. and it's still really fucking terrifying

Who is tabletopping "US/Russia alliance escalates tensions against an assumed EU/Ukraine alliance". Because while I don't think that's the most likely scenario, it is also far from the least likely. And it is really fucking terrifying.

Half of BYU's O-Line wants to go home to put their kids to bed. Can't they just finish this one up?

I remember my mom used to love the Sue Grafton detective novel series that started with "A Is For Alibi" (1982) and out of the blue I just thought "I wonder what Z was for?" And holy shit I was not prepared for the answer. Grafton wrote "Y is for Yesterday" in 2017 and then died without writing Z.

So, you take some rice like you'd use for nigiri, but instead of the fish, you put a thin layer of quality mustard, then a rollup of prosciutto, and a drizzle of quince paste.

TIL that a local weed shop that grows on-site (in the back half of their light-industrial/retail space) has been growing in the back half of that space for 35+ years. The grow used to be the back half of a welding/powder coating business, long before it all was legal. It was literally a front.

As a Baltimorean, the idea of a Cleveland-Milwaukee, second-tier, post-industrial, chip-on-the-civic-shoulder World Series warms my heart and soul. Tampa ok if that has to be. The Los Angeles Dodgers need to choke to death on wet cash.

a really big question i’m sure is not getting enough attention is whether or not we can make the public telephony system defensible against AI. if not we may be reverting to a society where the only secure mode of authentication is to appear somewhere in the flesh.

Starting tomorrow, but lasting no more than a week, every decent baseball fan in the country is a Brewers fan. Don't like that? Well, then you can root for a 4 game Brewers' sweep, and go back to your own fandom before bed on Thursday.

so the final four are * a team that has never won the World Series in its 28 seasons * a team that has never won the World Series in its 57 seasons * a team that hasn’t won the World Series in 77 seasons * Dodgers

I feel like ICE is about to find out how well-armed California is. "Drunk guy passed out on my lawn attacked me and my daughter when we kicked him awake and told him to move, so I shot him." is not going to result in charges. But ICE agents from Texas don't think that happens in Commie California.

A team like Kentucky has to be the dream job for football. You have heritage in basketball (and the engaged alum ba$e), you have decent recruiting grounds and conference prestige, but also no expectations and the ability to go for the win like that and not have anyone be mad if it didn't work.

With every single "oops, our AI agent exploited a bug on someone else's production system", I just remind myself of this guy...

It is always a pleasure to watch the Dallas Cowboys lose. Especially at home. Against a 0-4 team.
