The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail shows just how transformative public transit can be. But for too long, riders have had to put up with delayed trains, overcrowded platforms, and long-promised expansions that have yet to become reality. Our communities deserve better.

Whoa. @haleaziz.bsky.social has the scoop on a truly insane plan to use some military training ships for deportations, with people presumably shackled or locked in cells for days at a time as they transit to Central and South America. Each journey would be staggeringly expensive — and dangerous.

PATH proving increased weekend service reaps upping ridership. Now only if they would lengthen the window of increased service on weekends for after 9pm.

August US transit data is in today, & all of the largest US rail networks are growing! Cali leads the way, with ridership up 15% on BART, 14% on Muni, & 10% on LA Metro PATH (NY/NJ) & MBTA (Boston) also have strong growth at 8%, while MTS (San Diego, +1.7%) is the slowest🧵

So many people have asked - what happened to the original Transitway plan for World Cup? I talked to several people about what happened during talks between NJ Transit and MetLife Stadium owners. More on that, how NJT came in under budget and what they paid for, and the future of Transitway.

It’s crazy, but after the passage of the 2021 federal infrastructure law—designed to be the biggest infusion of funds into transit in US history—spending on rail transit….dropped.

Sort of insane fact about how broken US urban planning is—America now spends more building *just the lights for roads and highways* than on all subways & ground mass transit combined Spending on roadway *pavement* is 18x transit spending

617 days into his 2nd term, Trump's Department of Transportation has *still* not approved a single new transit project for full funding. The problems I highlighted in March—how this lack of funding only makes projects cost more & delays completion—have only worsened www.urban.org/urban-wire/r...

This area is a hotbed of development but really needs an infill Hudson Bergen Light Rail station at 18th Street.

Jersey City reveals plans for the redevelopment of the Holland Gardens public housing, taking a moderate density, monofuctional, 192-unit complex and replacing it with a high-density, 753-unit project with commercial space, a community center, & a public library! newyorkyimby.com/2026/09/plan...

It’s pretty defeating there’s no sense of any roadmap in the works for NJ Transit similar to this, even tho one could argue we have the density to have our own success story with upping frequencies.

A few thoughts about the 'Accelerate' plan released by SEPTA today to modernize transit services in the greater Philadelphia area. With specific focus on regional rail. The regional rail improvements could bring headways as good as every 15 mins - but only in the close-in metro areas....

United 18, a 777 from MXP running hours late (a good delay for a change, if they were on time they would have diverted and stuck elsewhere hours ago) looks to be the first aircraft to land at EWR in EIGHT HOURS.

The impacts of Superstorm Sandy continue to haunt us all.

HERE IS THE LATEST: A NJTRANSIT contractor (not Amtrak , as was blamed by Sec Duffy) is to blame for severing the fiber optic cable that provides back-up telecom service. More from NJT about the event that occurred at DelCo Lead project site at 9:45 AM. In New/North Brunswick.

THIS JUST IN: Plot twist, Amtrak tells me this was a NJ TRANSIT contractor on NJT property that caused the outage leading to the telecom problems and causing the FAA to pause flights along Northeast.

Colleen Wilson@colleenonthescene.bsky.social

This is not the first time a wire/cable was damaged amid NJ rail construction - 12/4/25: overhead wire issue near Newark was caused by the contractor working on the Portal North Bridge. - 5/12/23: Construction at PNB "affected electrical systems that impact train movements"

Listening to ATC chatter and it sounds like whatever the FAA is doing with this "airspace sterilization" requires *all* aircraft to exit the bravo airspace (I think?), even helicopters (I think?). This is absolutely wild. I have no idea if anything like that has happened before.

92 cancellations and nearly 70 diversions at Newark so far today as an FAA equipment outage continues to hold flights bound for Newark, Philadelphia, and Teterboro at their origin airports. Traffic comparison between last week and today.
