Teaching native kids to read English is probably a nightmare. In Russian the word's spelling roughly corresponds to its pronunciation (not 100%, but if you vocalize the spelling it's very close to its pronunciation). Which makes teaching reading a matter of teaching the alphabet.

What I think is important is to continue caring about the things you love despite anything. The storm will pass. The chaff will be blown away. Good work will continue standing.

Looking through a really old backup drive today and I have a directory that contains only this image and I don't know where it came from

There is probably an alternative universe where the programming language developers didn't use the word "token" to denote a lexeme and the whole weird cryptocurrency-esque discourse about LLM outputs has never happened.

Do you guys remember when Linus denied C++ because it's used by "substandard programmers" and "it's much much easier to generate a total and utter crap with it"?

A lot of shit we are dealing with in the modern computer systems is an adversarial complexity that serves no purpose except making things harder for the benefit of the system's owners. The main problem is that lot of people believe this complexity is necessary.

For a while the existence of soybean oil confused me because I thought soybeans are the source of proteins. Not oils. But apparently it's both.

Software is as diverse as the users are. For some software reading the code and modifying it IS part of the UX. Because the user is a programmer. For such software clarity and simplicity of the code is crucial because it's the UI. Good example are TempleOS and st but there's more

We've been discussing the meaning of the word "soydev" on the latest stream. And Spanish folks told me that "soydev" just means "I'm dev".

Been learning C for the past couple weeks, from basically 0 programming experience This weekend I tried to put the knowledge into practice and tried to make a program for the MSX, using the MSXgl lib Made a chord player for the AYM based on key presses! It's still very rough but I'm proud of it!!

It's really funny to watch how the sponsorship spammers use LLMs to analyze transcriptions of my streams to come up with a compelling hook which results in funny emails like this

What I like about not using LLM-based tools is writing code is so tedious you are looking for solutions to write less code or no code at all and you usually find them. Which improves your project dramatically in a longer run.

I'm at the point of Jai meta-programming where I'm considering to code generate Enums out of Photoshop file layers at compile time and it doesn't sound that crazy or even that difficult.
