Anti-Prime Day starts…NOW! 🥳 Today through midnight on 10/7, enjoy free shipping site-wide, all while supporting local, independent bookstores.

Gail's post about her spouse here reminds me: There's a lot of cool stuff about having a partner, but one of my favorite is bragging about all the cool stuff they've done when they won't do it themselves. Forever proud of my wife and all the cool shit she does. MrsPes is pretty damn awesome.

She said Gambit is her favorite character and her nickname has been Gambit since she was a little kid. I never bring up that I write the X-Men but Rocketspouse does every chance she gets. She was so happy to meet someone writing Gambit she almost cried. She said Gambit made her feel seen. 4/

You know, when you find out that the art you like is made by people you've learned hold views you find wholly repugnant, I don't think you need to disavow ever having enjoyed the art. It's okay to acknowledge you liked or loved that art, but are now putting it aside. That was then, this is now.

Okay, I have a question for the BattleTech players. What is your single favorite thing about the games? Is it the lore, the battle, the rpg elements, the setting, what do you LOVE about it?

In this new world of AI slop, Wikipedia has solidified itself as one of the most reliable places on the internet due to it's stringent sourcing practices and the fact it's editors are a bunch of meganderds

Relay for Life 2026 is in the books. The team, and everyone who participated in the stream raised an amazing $4,305.24. The event grows bigger every year, and every year, everyone comes and makes it the best Relay we've had yet.

Everyone is exhausted, and headed home to get their missing sleep (or is my wife who is working on a paper for their doctorate). Thanks again. None of this is possible without the generosity everyone.

Oh. Right. One last silly thing. In the 7 years we've taken the Relay for Life to the online space, we've managed to raise over $25k ($25,587 for those of us who want to be specific). I think that's pretty cool.

Cool. No reason for me to buy any new Playstation console stuff. God dammit.

PlayStation is ending production of physical discs for new games in January 2028. After this date, new games released on PlayStation will only be available in digital formats. buff.ly/LCejL0r

I realize our country is a clusterfuck sometimes (a lot of the time), but it's doing my heart real good seeing people coming from around the world for the World Cup and experiencing all the cool shit I love about the US.

A 40% pay increase, the right to walk off the job if federal agents (i.e. CBP/ICE) pose a threat to them *and* the contract expires in April 2028 so they can demand more ahead of the Olympics. Shoutout Local 11, shoutout unions.

FUCK SORA I’M HAPPY IT’S DEAD AND I WILL DRINK A GLASS OF WINE TO ITS WELL EARNED DEMISE 🎉🎉🎉

Lilah Sturges@lilahsturges.com

I think we need to celebrate the death of Sora a bit more. This is a technology that, just MONTHS AGO, we were being told was going to literally destroy Hollywood and Disney was going to give them a BILLION DOLLARS and NONE OF THAT EVEN REMOTELY HAPPENED

It’s the future, it’s inevitable, just accept it, it’s the way we will all be working very soon and there is no point in trying to oh wait it sucks, no one asked for it or wants it, and it’s shutting down forever.

New — I spoke to eight trans people in Kansas about the new state law that invalidated their driver’s licenses overnight, what’s it’s like to live there right now, plus details of two DMV emails exclusively obtained by The Handbasket that shed light on the law’s chaotic and cruel rollout:

thehandbasket.coHow Kansas Republicans weaponized the law to target 300 trans driver's license holdersSB 244 was put into effect virtually overnight, causing chaos, panic and fear in the trans community.

Well, that's fucking disappointing.

In the video of Trump talking to the US men's hockey team, when he says "I must tell you, we're going to have to bring the women's team, you do know that" as a joke about how annoying it is to have women around, the most painful part for me, are all the hockey players laughing. Actually laughing.

AOC: "Extreme level of wealth inequality leads to social instability and drives authoritarianism, right-wing populism, and really dangerous domestic internal politics. That is a direct outcome of the failure of democracies over decades to deliver."

“Abolish” or “defund” aren't within grasp in 2026. But where are: - End qualified immunity - Rewrite use-of-force so this crap isn't ruled “within policy” - Overturn July 8 mandatory detention memo - Reinstate TPS - Open up detention centers, enforce humane conditions He doesn’t even *ask* for it.

Chuck Schumer just announced demands on DHS to avoid shutdown: 1. End roving patrols, tighten rules on warrants 2. Enforce accountability & unified code of conduct for agents 3. No more masks & require bodycams There are *already* standards on much of this. The issue is DHS isn't following them!
