The critical defining feature of violence in Australian society is that it is, almost entirely, male. Pointing fingers in every direction (media, social media, gaming, gambling, porn, politics, whatever) will achieve nothing if it isn't also accepted that the problem is fundamentally a male one.

It’s so important when criticising Israel & Zionism, that we emphasise that we are NOT criticising all Jewish people. Jewish people are not a monolith, & so many are as vehemently opposed to Israel’s genocide of Palestinians as non-Jewish people are. Thank you to the @jewishcouncilau.bsky.social

Much of the intl reporting on the French protests has been doing my head in. Especially the Australian tendency to miss the point. So I was glad to write about what I saw firsthand at Place de la République last weekend. And have my photo published, too. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/2026/10...

A new preprint suggests SARS-CoV-2 has evolved to become harder for our immune systems to recognise. Researchers found that newer variants, including XBB.1.5 and KP.2, are less easily recognised by immune cells that detect new threats. KP.2 was recognised 3 times less often than the original strain.

Anthropic has recorded a net loss of $80.7 billion (AUD$120 bn) in the first half of 2026. In fairness, most of that was a non-cash loss (accounting adjustments), but even the cash loss was $8.7 billion. Its cash burn rate is more than $4 billion per month. Bubble? Gosh, who can say.
