i think the 'microblogging' format is systemically toxic, b/c in order to post about something you either have to condense it into a parody of the actual thought, or post a thread in which any individual part may be hijacked with a click into a lateral decontextualized scrap of it

trying to explain to @umlauthuth.bsky.social that the American system relies on set election dates years in advance and doesn't come with the government dissolving when it can't get anything passed really showed me how fucking stupid our system is

this could end up being a very bad month for me. if you need an artist on your project or team, however small, keep me in mind.

more indian food options here which feels like a monkeys paw thing b/c i still prefer to eat at the same indian food place (under new management tho) and they took over thai places so now it's harder to get old-toronto-style thai food

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

My first 5 *read* TTRPGs 1. Fighting Fantasy 2. The Babylon Project 3. LUG Star Trek (counting this as one) 4. D&D 3e 5. This gets complicated b/c it depends on what you count d20 versions of things as

My first 5 *played* TTRPGs 1. AD&D 2e 2. LUG Star Trek (one session by chat that went poorly) 3. D&D 3e 4. I think VtM Rev chargen and half a session? 5. Some homebrew thing i think

ttps://ko-fi.com/O4O8CAE3 Goal reached! I've paid of 2 of 3 months of arrears, but my landlord seems to have been mollified by the payments into not serving any forms, giving me time to pay the remaining arrears with regular income from work instead.

At least $50 billion for another pipeline. $82 billion in new military spending in 5 years. $300 billion in corporate welfare and mega incentives at an investment summit. But the cupboard is bare for Parks Canada.

2,671 PSAC members at Parks Canada received notice this week that their positions may be cut. These cuts put our environment, natural and cultural heritage, parks, and national historic sites at risk. psacunion.ca/psac-raises-...

I don't think I ever really recovered from the fire. For a brief, flickering moment I had a grasp of a life that was both what i wanted and seemed within my means, but i was ripped out of it into this half-world where it seemed like i could get back to that place if i just figured out how

and now just existing is a struggle. i look back to the brief times i felt alive, and wonder if anything like that is possible again? if i can survive just existing, not living, and looking ahead to a life of just existing?

I stopped going to TCAF b/c i felt ashamed to be there. Other cons I could go to while working booths or volunteering b/c at least that gave me something to do other than remind me of my failures.

but even those started to wear on me; reminding me of all the things I haven't finished or failed to finish and all the plans that sputtered out. i had nothing to show for existing. why show up if i have nothing in hand?

but looking back, i don't think i could have, and gripping on ever-tighter on to things that made it feel possible ended up making things worse.

now, at least, nothing seems within anyone's means, and at least i feel like i'm in common cause with everyone else, but at the time the sense of being at best housed, not homed, and scraping by instead of employed seemed a unique and shameful failure on my part.

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

they are consumers without understanding of production; they are the ultimate end-step of capitalist alienation. they have the money to buy the means of production to do anything but can only think of hiring labour to do it for them

This is true of making AND playing games. The struggle is the point. Conjuring art defeats the entire purpose of art-making. When these tech weirdos say that the end result is all that matters, they reveal how little they know about making anything.

First day at the 2nd job (grocery-stocking) that I had to go tell my boss that I had to sit down for 10 minutes and take an advil b/c of back pain.

The Trump-aligned CEO of an American corporation is dismantling one of Canada’s most important industries and 500 Canadian workers could lose their jobs. If we’re serious about making Canada strong, it’s time to take back control of our economy and nationalize Stelco.

Um okay I hate to do this but ever since I had to pay for a bunch of school and visa stuff all at once I've been struggling to cover costs and have been without my prescriptions, including my ADHD meds and HRT for months now. If anyone can help so I can get back on track, I'd appreciate it.

what do you do when you need to ask people for help but you feel immense guilt about it at all moments

Sure, I would *like* to get more gdrive space, google, but where's the option to just get gdrive space and not a bunch of LLM bullshit I'm actively avoiding?

In 2026 thinking "Do I know 75 more people who could spare $25?" and I suspect I actually don't. I mean, I definitely know 75 more people, but $25...?

My landlord is threatening to move to legal notices if I don't pay the remaining arrears by this friday, Oct 16th. I know pretty much everyone is going through it right now, but anything you can throw my way can help. ko-fi.com/O4O8CAE3

I unexpected started a second job (some 29 hours a work minimum wage stuff, nothing exciting) and that does mean going forward I can even things out compared to the freelancing, but it's not going to cover the arrears, and it does eat into the time and (more importantly) energy for the freelancing

The new job is also why I haven't finished some existing freelancing projects or the first real posts for Legions of the Dead, but hopefully I'll get at least one of those things done tonight.

"I stole a 20-year old pulp magazine from my high school's Life Skills classroom" is also probably a good summary of what i was like as a teenager

Chris Huth@umlauthuth.bsky.social

I stole an issue of Hitchcock's from school once! Although who was buying murder mystery magazines for high schools in the 70s is beyond me. Typing this out, I just had a weird realization about who else might have read it.
