@heinrich.senate.gov please change your position and support and protect Section 106. Respect Tribal sovereignty and the input of local communities. As a NM Democrat, I am so disappointed in you. Section 106 is so important to protecting the Cultural Heritage of our state.

New OA paper out!🎉 We tested an antibody-based technique to detect uracil in DNA, a chemical change that accumulates after death and is one of the hallmarks of aDNA. The results suggest that uracil content could offer a useful clue when deciding which DNA extracts to investigate further for aDNA🔎

Our new paper is out. Ancient #proteomics of ochre-containing sediment from South Africa (64 ka) identified traces of collagen proteins from eland (Taurotragus oryx). This finding provides new evidence for the complex technical and symbolic behaviors of early Homo sapiens. doi.org/10.1098/rspb...

This reminds me of that scene in Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron with the puma attack. Except this was a whole herd of cattle bullying one bear when it tried to go after a calf. (Photos by Wayne Ray)

After this backlash, Nscale is saying they've never planned to "bulldoze" the trees, as viral social media posts claimed. But they and the governor's office do plan to move them, which experts say will almost definitely kill them within a few years. www.404media.co/west-virgini...

We were investigating Wedgewood for faking their data and emailed them for comment this morning, ahead of publishing the findings tomorrow. They are now trying to cover up their fraud with the "we were doing a social experiment" excuse. Full story here: blog.fiftyplusone.news/p/fiftypluso...

Thinking some more about how archaeological illustration is always created and viewed in a larger context, in my case broadly Western culture. Does anyone have good examples of #SciArt created by and for consumption in a different cultural setting? … 🐡 #archaeology 🏺 #DataViz #ArtHistory

Every time I start composing a archaeological burial scene, I slam right into the unconscious of “Lamentation of Christ” art. I find it nearly impossible not to think of them when illustrating this subject. 1/3 #SciArt 🐡 #archaeology 🏺 #illustration

Why would I ever want to do a puzzle? What enjoyment is there in time spent producing something, seeing chaos turned into order?

This article in The Atlantic about the grown-up LEGO market struck me as off, written by someone who just can't quite bring themselves to understand why grown-ups would build LEGO sets (and notably didn't seem to talk to anyone to ask). www.theatlantic.com/culture/2026...

What could be more Halloween than a BAT? How about a bat colored like a JACK-O-LANTERN? Let's meet the Painted Bat (Kerivoula picta), also called the butterfly bat, native to SE Asia. 🦇🎃 (📷: MerlinTuttle.org)

What a talking point for the whole "parents upset their kids are cutting them out of their lives" nonsense we've been subjected to lately.

Two thoughts: This false, despicable ad is proof that Vivek Ramaswamy knows he is about to lose to Amy Acton. No mother who loves her daughter would do this. Her complicity reveals her.

🏺 🧪 Saw this earlier in the year and agree with all Huw's points, especially regarding the simplification of the archaeological evidence

(1/7) Interesting new pre-print by Reich (www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...). Archaeological and geographical claims can be questioned imo though. Some kind of population contact between an early Homo sapiens population and Neanderthals is evident, but there are lots different specific scenarios.
