just got out of an uber. the driver was telling me how he has to work 16 hour days, seven days a week, at two different jobs to afford rent. he doesn't have healthcare and he worries about retirement. "i would feel a lot better if we owned greenland," he told me. then he cried.

And to those people who brought their spouses and children along to #perfnow. Absolutely melted my grumpy old man heart to see them run around (the children, not the spouses). Normalise this!

Man, having to wait almost 13 months for a the next #perfnow is going to be excruciating. Top shelf, elite conference. Great speakers, great atmosphere, excellent people all around. Thank you to everyone. 🫶

Just got back to my hotel from #perfnow day 1. What an epic day, from hardcore debugger tools to accessibility finesse and sustainability concerns. Top tier 👌

My new theme to @civgame.bsky.social VII has been released! For this newest installment of the legendary franchise, I took texts from four ancient epics, all of which have the same message: "Do something magnificent before you die, and your name will live forever." www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaGK...

Incredibly grateful for two sold out shows, with Bel Canto Choir Vilnius, A Scalpella, Duodeco, Jamal Moore, tenor Tomas Pavilionas, Aritaku Robens and Roimata Kautai, and the immense Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra. 📸 Domas Rimeika (1, 4, 6, 8) Mantas Gudzinevicius (2, 3, 5, 7, 9)

I'm happy my government has risen to challenge the Israeli lack of enforcing responsibilities that an occupying force has. No further distress to communities, human rights like access to nutrition and water being the least.

This post is unavailable.

I'm so grateful that through the power of the Internet, I have friends from so many countries and cultures. Most of which I've never met in person, but who I cherish and look forward to talking to again. I have faith in humanity and always will.

Naming things is hard. If you don’t know what to call a component in your design system, you can start by looking at what other teams are doing. Component Gallery is a great resource for this: component.gallery/components/ …But don’t assume that something is correct, just because it’s popular.

I've come to understand what's happening in frontend's decade-long failure to deliver decent user experiences as a sort of epistemic closure. I'm calling it "frameworkism", and the epicenter is now React. Here's a lot of words on why we should all reject it: infrequently.org/2024/11/if-not-r…

infrequently.orgIf Not React, Then What? - Infrequently NotedFrameworkism is now the dominant creed of today's frontend discourse, and it's bullshit. We owe it to ourselves and to our users to reject dogma and embrace engineering as a discipline that strives to...

One of the best instructions I've ever given ChatGPT is "I'm not American.". At least now, when I let it code my future Mars expedition, it won't yeet me into Jovian orbit.

Shout out to all the wonderful organisers, speakers, and attendants at #perfnow for making such a world class event. See y'all next year!

For a lot of us, losing Twitter isn’t really about losing ties to the company itself. It’s losing 10+ years of real, asynchronous communities, professional development, the ability to get gigs and clients, the ability to promo/share your art on an extremely broad scale. The loss of that has impact.

You are up to date.
