BBC announcer voice: At 6pm we'll be showing Sex Secrets of the Druids, and at 8 it's the entire panel at QI talking about Brexit and randomly pointing a loaded revolver at each other.

Excuse me sir, I thought these were strictly going to be used to exterminate the homeless and I wish to complain.

Took the bus across town with @newkillerstar.bsky.social to see The Devils in an arthouse theater. Had a big bag of greasy popcorn and a plastic cup full of wine. Watched a guy do swordplay with a stuffed crocodile. Bros behind us were laughing at inappropriate shit Ah, Ken Russell, you British nut

This is my third Ken Russell Experience and it cements my conception of him as what would happen if Stanley Kubrick had no impulse control. The dude makes lavish, lopsided, gleefully vulgar films where every single character sucks, but he layers in thematics like a pro

The Devils is, to me, about how various people navigate varying degrees of hyprocrisy inside the framework of religion and politics. It occasionally gave me a deeply unpleasant flash to my current job and the vicious, dumb jerks I have to deal with there.

I think more precisely we shouldn't continue to platform, uncritically, a guy who is observedly one of the worst crackhead gamblers in history. We SHOULD listen to him but he should be situated in the media equivalent of a dunk tank.

Nobody should be listening to Jim Cramer. Period.

Cool, now hold cars to the same standard.

The City Council has now passed Romanch's Law, named after the 18-year-old tourist who died in a carriage accident in June. Once Mamdani signs it, the carriage industry will be phased out by 2028. pix11.com/news/local-n...

The great thing about Musk is that he continuously gets worse as a person but his ability to both generate humor and profound remarks remains at this consistently sub-shite level.

K. Thor Jensen@kthorjensen.bsky.social

grok what would a smart guy say

And it's like... these are the two things Musk sees as being the quintessential likeable traits of the ideal man. Comedy and profundity. He's so bad at both and he knows it. It clearly eats at him. The politics read as him trying to appeal to people in a way he's less genuinely interested in.

It's a dial up modem sound and the longer you chain ring pickups the longer the static continues, eventually dumping you into the hidden Prodigy bonus stage.

what if they made a new mainline Sonic game that was genuinely really good, like they finally nailed it, except the ring sound effect was different

Fuck Gavin Newsom. He is a wannabe billionaire who is already worth more than $30 million. He doesn't give a damn about you. VOTE Yes on Prop 40 to tax the billionaires. Vote NO on Props 41 and 42. And ignore all the propaganda from Planned Parenthood leadership. They're just like Gavin:

If you sent me a screenplay with this in it, I'd assume you were a hack writer and toss it on the fire.

In-N-Out patrons are reportedly turning to a Facebook Marketplace black market for delivery, which the chain does not offer. Some drivers are allegedly charging up to $50 extra upfront and never delivering the food.

That said, I've repeatedly likened Socal's enthusiasm for In N Out to being actually cultish on a shallow level, so... surprised but not shocked.

I see the bottom layer contrarians are calling the food mid so fine, here's my opinion based on twelve years ago; it's fine. Good quality for the cheap price, but not worth the religious fervor.

It's slop-coded. If you're the kind of Morlock that actually buys stuff on Epic, remove your card details immediately.

I remember years after I left the media, Dan Hsu wrote a blog about how a Certain Company was selling ad space for favorable coverage. Many game media types called him out for it and he slowly crossed all their companies off the list, basically leaving the one I worked for.

the stupid thing was: the consumer games press DID have unethical marketing mouthpiece relationships with the industry. the e3 / spike tv / actiblizz / doritogate conglomerate and the payola-dominated masculine corporate culture had a stranglehold on what got made and how it could be discussed --

By the mid 90s there was this "old wisdom" that games for women didn't do as well. Enter Games For Her, a spinoff company by American Laser Games, the gun game arcade favorite. A company so successful it bought ALG when the parent company started to fail. Still around today as Her Interactive.

What's interesting to me is the question of what created the ecosystem that made Gamergate a success, as much as a screaming pile of sentient nightmare diarrhea can be. I think it's more complex than the increasingly masculine marketing saturation, though that is a significant contributor.

I think hyper-masculine marketing itself was a result of the capitalization of the gaming industry. Sales numbers had to get bigger, and genres that had particular appeal to women like adventure games started to vanish.

Wouldn't be surprised if my company had been doing that, but Hsu worked for Ziff-Davis, which was DEFINITELY elbow deep in it. The 3 crimes of Gamergate, in order: 1) widespread platforming of misogynist hate 2) giving any attention to Adam Baldwin 3) delegitimizing criticism of the media

Gavin Newsom backs measure to kill the billionaire tax and ban future wealth taxes Gov. Gavin Newsom isn't just fighting the billionaire tax. He's backing Prop. 42, which would ban future wealth taxes in California, too.

We've recently seen far right conservatives value freedom of speech over their clearly fake anti-pedo stance with AI generated CSAM, so I'm predicting we're going to circle back to 2002 with distinctions between proper and improper (gay) child molestation.
