this remains, to me, the single most baffling thing that happens regularly I know it’s a power thing, but how the fuck are SO MANY dudes apparently sending unsolicited dick pictures 24/7 what is wrong with men

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

So hard to pick a favorite part of this article. Pretending that sending unsolicited dick pics at 53 was a “youthful indiscretion” is good, but don’t sleep on the argument that his wife forgave him for subjecting other women to unwanted nude photos so everyone else should too

Everybody in the replies is rightfully pointing to algebra and so on but also an Arab scientist won the Nobel Prize one year ago.

this site loves to talk about the professional-managerial class and thats true as the organizing force but the real *mass* of any modern left wing movement is going to be healthcare workers, teachers, sanitation workers, arborists, and secretaries, who are *not* PMC (except some healthcare workers).

why is it that the "working class" must be involved in physical blue collar labor and be vaguely chuddy? why is it that the trans woman working as a respiratory therapist isnt working class? i am so fucking tired

The “something” in question was the workers themselves deciding by 1966 that they no longer wanted New Dealer welfare capitalism if it meant black Americans would benefit from it while anti-war protesters were free to burn the flag

Waldo@waldo42.bsky.social

Something happened in the 70's that crystallized politics (and many other topics) into a new set of assumptions and priors. It gave rise to Reaganism and completely crushed New Deal Socialism; Dems that eventually reemerged were and still are centrists scared of their own shadows.

The Hard Hat Riot is the single most important and consequential independently organized labor action in post-Gilded Age American history but the entire left-of-center has deliberately chosen to completely forget it because of how utterly embarrassing it is to us

Wallahi I will make this fukken website know what happened in this country between 1966 and 1972, I have tolerated “the Dems just sold out for no reason one day and all became Big Money Uniparty Reaganites because they hate the pure and noble workers” for too long

one of the really useful takeaways from fukuyama's political order books is a clear conceptual understanding of what corruption *is* in its fundamental nature. and the answer... is patronage networks organized on personal connections! corruption is *inherent* in these discretionary systems!

One big advantage the Chinese have is a robust organized crime network that works hand-in-glove with local government. This is also true for Japan and South Korea, when the mob comes around and threatens to break your kneecaps if you don't sell it keeps construction timelines on-schedule.

This is a good primer on Israel's political situation going into tomorrow's election. But I'd like to go deeper on something he only touches on, which is that part of the reason for Israel's electoral doldrums (and resulting geopolitical chaos) is its broken political system bsky.app/profile/avis...

In about 24 hours, poles will open here in Israel. In what is a strong contender for Israel’s most critical elections. The election pits Netanyahu’s extremely unpopular coalition against a non-coherent, but moderately more liberal, opposition. Here are some thoughts as we head into it.

This is the achievement of decades of "give peace a chance" activism. The argument being made is that of the end of *Lord of War*, wherein the film's stand-in for Viktor Bout argues that he shouldn't go to prison because the US government is the world's biggest arms dealer.

The head of a Russian corruption vehicle can shamelessly accuse the US of war profiteering over its assistance to an embattled democracy because the US itself (particularly but not exclusively on the left) constructed a myth that any transfer of arms is a scam to enrich American defense contractors.

The "anti-war" movement's boundless cynicism created this. Rather than engaging with the actual causes of 2000s-era they instead went straight for misplaced corruption allegations, and in so doing created a bottomless well of propaganda for US adversaries to draw upon.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.
