If anyone’s interested, here’s my personal soundtrack accompaniment to DIANA. I started making this playlist in real time as I began penciling the book in October 2023, changing as the book & its inner workings unfolded— it really helped me stay rooted in the core feelings underneath.

A few days ago, my brother texted me a retro picture of bookstore where we used to buy comics in the ’80s. I wrote, “Sometimes on Rt. 4, esp. in winter, I think of the evenings spent there, and how life was so much simpler, though of course I didn’t realize it in my youth.”

He replied, “Optima dies prima fugit,” or, “The best days are the first to flee.” I wrote, “They weren’t the best days, just simpler than now. I was a fat, alienated kid who took refuge in superheroes.” He didn’t write back.

And now back to the starting point of this insane 6-week sprint of work/travel. Two more days, and I can finally breathe. (It started with a stretch of four hotels in six nights, & ends with four four-hour drives in five days.)

Going through our flat file of originals as we move out of our house for a big renovation project. Fun to see all of this stuff. Here's easily my fave thing we have in the collection: one of E.C. Segar's sketchbooks--probably late era, '36 maybe?

My novel Unspeakable Things is out today — here's the latest (short) review in Book Pages, with an accompanying interview. Thanks so much to everyone who pre-ordered the book and offered support — I'm very grateful!

My kid has started a Letterboxd list called Killer Sweaters for films where the killer wears a great sweater and they've asked me to throw it out to Bluesky for more because "that's the kind of thing those weirdos like to do"
