this is kind of like saying “people feel like there’s already enough electricity,” which is an easy position to hold as long as you don’t have to describe whose power is gonna get turned off

stuart@stuartp.bsky.social

the argument against NIMBYism is the utility of the thing they are protesting (schools, power plants, train tracks etc). The reason NIMBYism about data centres is relatable is people feel there's already more than enough digital bullshit

After discovering that the original Dawn of the Dead is now on YouTube, I got curious about what became of the lead actors (other than Ken Foree, who's still acting). Way to go Fran and RIP Flyboy, but the most interesting Wikipedia entry belongs to Roger, aka Scott Reiniger.

Finally watched this, and my favorite part hands down is the filmmaker's wife offering criticism of the documentary as he's making it. Her reaction to the first draft of the ending -- "Is this a joke?" -- is worth the price of admission.

Think my own wife nailed it when she said that the movie is really about a guy wrestling with his fears about becoming a first-time dad. The AI stuff isn't purely incidental but it's more of a scaffolding to hang his anxieties on.

We’ve shared the opening scene of Devil in Silver. Let’s just say it sets the tone, and look, and sound, for what’s to come. Play it with the volume up so you can really hear it when things start to…crack. THE TERROR: DEVIL IN SILVER 5/7 on AMC+ & SHUDDER

Chris Cantwell@ifyoucantwell.bsky.social

The first 5 minutes of THE TERROR: DEVIL IN SILVER are here… the entire cold open. Emphasis on cold, as in, dead. Plus a literary Easter egg in there. Meet Nurse Josephine (Maureen Sebastian), Orderly “Scotch Tape” (Hampton Fluker), & Miss Chris (CCH Pounder). CW: not for the faint of heart.
