Republicans work for Chinese, Russian, and Gulf oligarchs, not Americans, and use xenophobia to consolidate power. “Even Republicans with nothing to lose will still shrivel at the moment of truth.” youtu.be/f31fBMgYfWY

… But what really ought to be done is to shut it down. If a company repeatedly demonstrates that it cannot operate without jeopardizing fundamental rights and the integrity of democratic elections, we should seriously consider whether it should continue to be permitted to operate. It is …

… a damn disgrace—one that any citizen with even a modicum of serious commitment to democratic principles should feel compelled to act against. Democracy cannot depend on what Mark #Zuckerberg deems most convenient for his bottom line or his repulsive worldview. www.enriquedans.com/2026/10/meta...

enriquedans.comMeta, el cáncer de la democraciaLo que ha pasado en Brasil durante las últimas elecciones presidenciales debería servir para que dejásemos de una vez de considerar a Meta como una simple empresa tecnológica. Diversos medios…

… Beyond being a deeply harmful company for its users, Meta has become a true cancer to democracy. This is not about censoring opinions or banning technologies; it is about preventing a private corporation from concentrating power over democratic processes— …

… —a level of power that no #government should ever possess. Given the existing precedents, the bare minimum requirements should include independent audits, algorithmic #transparency, effective legal #accountability, and the structural separation of its platforms. …

… It is not necessary to prove that #Meta has explicitly set out to establish #fascism; one need only look at how its economic incentives, technological architecture, and policy decisions facilitate the spread of #authoritarian movements. …

… From any perspective, this should be considered entirely intolerable in a reasonably mature #democracy. The issue is not merely what #Meta does or does not allow to be published, but the power it has arrogated to itself to determine the conditions under which democratic discourse takes place. …

… Meanwhile, Mark #Zuckerberg has gone ahead and eliminated independent fact-checkers in the #UnitedStates while relaxing content moderation policies—a move that represents a clear political alignment with Donald #Trump. …

… The company that controls a significant portion of the global public discourse is unilaterally altering its own rules, with citizens having absolutely no say or ability to intervene. …

… Contemporary #fascism does not necessarily require uniforms or parades; it can advance through opaque recommendation systems, the #manipulation of #attention, and platforms that dictate which messages circulate, which ones disappear, and who is permitted to speak. …

… This is not a case of "complaining just because my side didn't win"; it is a call to protect the integrity of #democracy and to prevent an unscrupulous, unethical scoundrel from manipulating it simply because he believes he is superior to the rest of humanity. …

… for whom, and under what conditions. Are we really going to continue leaving something as vital as the integrity of an #election in the hands of private companies—companies with appalling ethical track records that are, furthermore, not accountable to citizens or anyone else? …

… All of this aligns disturbingly well with the concept of #technofascism – the convergence of technological concentration, #surveillance, algorithmic control, and authoritarian political tendencies. …

… We could also point to the case of Romania […] where the first round of a presidential election was annulled amid allegations of manipulation via TikTok. Even then […] dangers posed by platforms whose algorithms could transform propaganda & disinformation into weapons for electoral manipulation. …

… What we are witnessing now in Brazil adds another dimension to the problem: it is no longer just about what certain political actors manage to achieve by using these platforms and paying for their services; it is also about how the platforms themselves decide which tools work, …

… does #CambridgeAnalytica —and the 87 million user profiles harvested without consent for targeted political propaganda—ring a bell? Or consider #Myanmar, where Amnesty International documented how Facebook’s algorithms amplified hate speech against the #Rohingya minority, …

… helping to create the conditions for mass atrocities. Or even Spain, where the Spanish Data Protection Agency had to intervene to block certain election-related features that threatened voter privacy. …

… —nor with the fact that the Bolsonaro campaign continued to use the very tools to which the Lula campaign was denied access. The result, regardless of Meta’s actual intentions, was a profoundly unequal treatment of two presidential campaigns— …

… —something no democracy should tolerate on a platform with such significant influence. Should we be surprised? We ought to recall the kind of wretched company we are dealing with: …

… The complaints even reached international #election observers, and the Superior Electoral Court ordered #Meta to ensure equitable treatment for both campaigns, under threat of daily fines amounting to half a million reais. …

… Some Meta employees flagged this unequal treatment in real time and escalated the issue; the company subsequently offered various technical excuses that did not align with the timeline— …

… A technical glitch? It’s possible, though highly unlikely. A potentially grave interference in a democratic process? That, without a shadow of a doubt. …

… But it doesn’t end there: Lula’s campaign filed a complaint with the electoral authorities, alleging that their posts and advertisements on #Instagram were subject to “inexplicable” restrictions, while content favorable to Bolsonaro—by some “coincidence”—received disproportionate reach. …

… Several Brazilian media outlets have verified and reported that the artificial intelligence integrated into #WhatsApp refused to generate election-related images of #Lula featuring the number 13—which identified his candidacy— …

… while simultaneously fulfilling similar requests for Flávio Bolsonaro using the number associated with his own campaign, 22. Most scandalously, this discrimination persisted even after Meta claimed to have fixed the issue. …

NEW FROM POLITICO: Democrats are increasingly likely to win the midterms. Politico is reporting that investigating DOGE will be one of their first orders of business in a flipped Congress. We're getting closer to winning justice for the lives and livelihoods Musk harmed.

We are seeing a hunger disaster unrolling before our eyes. Since Republicans passed the Big Beautiful Bill, 2 million kids have lost food assistance. These are by far the deepest SNAP cuts in history, and each month, we find out it’s even worse than we thought. The worst is yet to come.

Katie Bergh@katiebergh.bsky.social

In the wake of unprecedented cuts in last year's Republican reconciliation law, SNAP participation & spending have been falling — and the decline is much deeper than the Congressional Budget Office initially projected. www.cbpp.org/blog/congres...

Truly incredible that this is how the media is choosing to eulogize the longest-serving Republican Speaker of the House in US history, who was a serial sexual abuser of children. For all the talk about "deep state" plots to abuse children, no one even remembers this case.
