one thing you learn from making a lot of things is that the nitty gritty details, the millions of tiny invisible decisions, ARE the art. The "higher level ideas" are not nearly as important or interesting

Freya Holmér@freya.bsky.social

"AI lets you focus on the higher level ideas!!" because we all grew up dreaming of becoming managers and CEOs we all know the real artists at the very highest level are the shareholders, famously full of amazing ideas

Now IF THAT IS TRUE, how come this screenshot of the 1987 video game Gemini Wing CLEARLY shows you fighting a school of skyfish? This is at least seven years before they were supposedly discovered! This throws all we thought we knew about skyfish into question, if you ask me.

My take on anime title languages is that is the original author gave the work a subtitle in English I will always use that in every situation. ESPECIALLY if it's absolute bullshit and grammatically wrong. Nothing gives me more pleasure.

sometimes I fantasize about localizing already-localized things from scratch as if nobody would get mad. Gensokyo? "Phantasmia." Scarlet Devil Mansion? "Crimsonfell." Korindo? "the Smoke and Myrrh"

Forever wishing a man counterpart to tomboys caught on (Femboys just aren't the same thing (and are often just women anyway), and like tomboys, some people would feel comfortable with that terminology who don't feel comfortable with "non-binary" and similar things)

Game Theory is that astrolabe. Yudkowsky and company are the priests of the Zahir. They have mistaken a tool potentially useful for observing the world, for the world itself. They've taken a T-shirt printed "RATIONALITY" and pulled it over the most irrational parts of their selves.

Dag Ågren ↙︎↙︎↙︎ reposted

Borges once described an astrolabe of such brilliantly ingenious design that any astronomer sent to use it would instead be consumed with obsession over examining the astrolabe's construction, so it was useless for examining the world, and the sultan ordered it thrown into the sea.

Working on a new tree generation algorithm. The old one was 2D, this new produces 3D volumes. The lighting and shadows are 3D too, using a voxel engine for the game that's been in the works for over a year now.

part of why I don't like AI is bc it's so often the antithesis of caring for the little things, the appreciation of the mundane, of seeing beauty where others haven't yet been able to, and seeking genuine fundamental understanding all in the name of "get product faster" I find it so disheartening

I’m surely not the first to come to this realisation, but the LLM industrial complex is to tech-life what MAGA is to politics: erode any and all trust in established institutions, people and practices for the benefit of the very few and worst people on the planet in the (poor) guise of freedom.

I’m working on a set of patience/solitaire card games for iOS. Highly polished, good looking, no ads, no AI, no tracking. Hand picked to actually be fun, instead of just including every game out there. A mix of classic, new, and weird. #indiedev #noai TestFlight builds: patience.c3.cx

I once got called a witch by a guy who was so dogshit at arguing, formulating thoughts and generaly reasonning that me making sense when i disagreed with him felt like magic to him (he fucking told me that). So i think everything can be a magic system if you're dumb enough

perfectionism is so often seen as a permissive ability to create or drive something towards perfection, but in reality, it's a crippling inability to let go of anything imperfect it's an obsession, it stagnates you, and gets you stuck on things you shouldn't be

"Content" is something to fill an empty vessel: it repositions your view of the world to align with corporations. Art becomes something disposable, fungible, serving a financial interest and nothing more. The word "artist" is right there; I beg you to claim it and leave "content creator" to molder

Currently working on making Actually Good solitaire card games for mobile. This means I am working on must-have features such as: cards that wiggle excitedly when they are about to move. #solitaire #indiedev #indiegame
