NEW: A bird flu outbreak has been raging uncontrolled on a Utah mink farm for two months. Flu experts fear it could spark a devastating human pandemic. But officials haven’t acted — instead prioritizing the financial interests of the fur trade.

I've been screaming for months for Democrats to do this. I can't tell you how happy this ad made me.

Team Talarico@teamtalaricohq.bsky.social

NEW AD: Have you seen these anti-Talarico attack ads? Elon Musk paid for nearly all of them. The world's first trillionaire knows if he drags the most corrupt politician in Texas across the finish line, Ken Paxton will owe him everything. Elon Musk: Texas is not for sale.

"But character matters more than party affiliation."

Yashar Ali 🐘@yasharali.bsky.social

Neil Bush, brother of George W. Bush and son of George H.W. Bush, has posted a political message on Facebook for the first time, saying he voted for James Talarico for US Senate over Ken Paxton. Bush says he isn't just opposing Paxton, he has come to admire Talarico.

This owl was getting banded and tagged by the Rocky Point Bird Observatory. For the owl’s safety, he/she was wrapped up. These photos…🤣🦉. So cute.

Holy shit. Every single Democrat: This is the message. This right here. This is the whole ass pitch the voters in the weeks before the election.

Ossoff: "It's the most corrupt administration of all time & everybody knows it. While the crook president & his crook family rake in billions from all over the world, you pay more for everything... they lied us into war & spent most of the last year covering up for the world's most famous pedophile"

Worth noting this, in light of Meta's temporary ban on the 'No Kings' Instagram account

The president of Brazil has won a court case against Meta, after accusing them of restricting his posts and algorithmically favoring his opponent, Flavio Bolsonaro www.nbcnews.com/world/south-...

This is the way. Would be nice to see something like this for candidates Elon Musk is funding, too.

Telling story by Washington Sun: In a top House battleground, that voted for Trump by a large margin, Dems have put up a billboard that pretty much does nothing but notes the Republican's endorsement of Trump and his support for ICE. www.washingtonsun.com/campaigns/so...

Seems like a good move by Padilla, and I'm glad some staffers chose to volunteer. I wish I had more faith in what they do for follow-up, though.

Jay Kuo@nycjayjay.bsky.social

An important move by Dems. One more weapon in our defensive arsenal. Link: buff.ly/HEmDemz

This would be a great time for Dem Senators to throw some sand in the gears. What say you @wyden.senate.gov @jeff-merkley.bsky.social?

Reuters Legal@legal.reuters.com

US Senate Republicans are laying the groundwork to confirm as many of President Donald Trump's judicial nominees as possible in the weeks after the November 3 midterm elections, as the chance of Democrats flipping the chamber looms.

Seeing him openly prioritize access to sources over democracy itself is absolutely wild.

One must ask which is more likely: that we have developed genuine, self-aware machine intelligence, or that a piece of text generation software that's been hand-tuned for thousands of hours to portray an intelligent conversationalist is affectively effective on a large number of people?

I keep getting more and more impressed with El-Sayed. I hope he wins by so much that this and Mamdani become the Dem models to emulate.

This was such a great answer from Abdul El-Sayed about his previous criticisms of President Obama.

This.

A.R. Moxon@juliusgoat.bsky.social

Hard not to notice that Democrats who are doing the best are the ones who are leaving this whole civility-and-norms, we-go-high, we-need-a-strong-Republican-Party bullshit behind and are simply giving Republicans exactly what they all ought to get at all times, which is undisguised contempt.

I think Ossoff captures something that Newsom never did: the Dem base wants you to fight but they want real shit not goofy memes and too-online riffs

OSSOFF: You didn't answer earlier. Answer now. Did Donald Trump win the 2020 election? MIKE COLLINS: You know, the 2020 election. Everybody has seen my views on that OSSOFF: What are they? COLLINS: There was a lot of doubt in that election OSSOFF: I didn't hear an answer

“We see lifelong effects from eviction on health, on education, on economic opportunity.”

Experts say eviction filings in southwest Oregon — driven by rising costs and stagnant wages — are almost twice as high as before the pandemic when rental assistance helped many renters keep up with their bills.

The corporation I've worked for since 2021 keeps having record profits in spite of ~23% inflation since then. Billions in stock buybacks. Stock price tripled. I got a 1.5% raise in 5 years. My anger is more than "vibes."

Senator Chris Van Hollen@vanhollen.senate.gov

Never in recorded history have corporations made more than they do today.   Never in recorded history have workers taken home less of those profits than they do today.   That's Trump's economy in a nutshell. www.axios.com/2026/10/13/e...

The most consistent negative people use to describe Democrats is "weak." We need way more candidates who lead with this kind of fearlessness. People respond to perceived strength. That comes in lots of styles and tones, but people want to vote for fighters.

This is how British WW2 psyops worked. Making the weirdness of Nazis more explicit. Mocking their ridiculous uniforms and actions.

Hunter@hunterub.bsky.social

So, the reason we mock horrible fascists is not to make fascists change their minds. It is to show they are mockable. It breaks the veneer of respectability and power. It gives others social permission to mock them. Satire is poisonous to power because it makes opposition both fun and collaborative.

The term everyone is dancing around is "secret police", a hallmark of totalitarian regimes.

Things got more insane just about as soon as I posted this last night. DHS is now arguing that we cannot even put the names of ICE officers in our lawsuit against those officers. Their position is that, if a defendant works for DHS, they cannot be named in a lawsuit. Never seen anything like it.
