A few weeks ago I gave a talk saying that "People with LLMs are a threat to communities", and some people found it too extreme. I guess my next edition of that talk will say "People with LLMs are destroying and have destroyed communities". I hope you SWC friends will find a way to recover.

Due to AI, I have disabled external pull requests on all my repos. Open source, as we have known it, was fun while it lasted. (It’s been 15 years for me) I will still maintain projects and handle issues.

Today Igalia turns 25. Ten engineers started it in A Coruña in 2001 with no investors and no managers. There are now close to 200 of us, and everything we build still goes upstream. igalia.com/2026/09/21/T...

Because they’re too blinded by their own racism. The only reason this migration as hybrid warfare works against Europe is because it weaponises Europe’s anti-migrant racism. If there was no anti-migrant racism these “attacks” wouldn’t work as intended.

“Morocco is signaling to Spain through these easily instrumentalized mass crossings that it could attempt to annex Ceuta and Melilla at any point, yet the EU fails to see through this strategy. 6/

Hello friends and welcome to another “how’s ESM vs CJS doing?!” A big win this time, at a year of `require(esm)` available! 38.0% of the popular npm packages now have ESM, up from 33.4% half a year ago. ESM-only is up from 12.6% to 16.0%. Particularly this non-dual, “vanilla” growth is very big!

Dual is up from 20.8% to 22.0%, so its growth is slowing. Once again, thanks to @joyeecheung.bsky.social for `require(esm)`! Code at github.com/wooorm/npm-e... Last thread at bsky.app/profile/wooo...

Dual is also up, 18.1% to 20.8%. Dual is not bad per se, it helps people, but it’s also big, and it’s not needed with `require(esm)`, so I especially hope those packages move to ESM. Thanks @joyeecheung.bsky.social for `require(esm)`!

On this day 91 years ago, the Works Progress Administration was founded in response to the Great Depression. Between 1935 and 1943, the economic recovery program employed 8.5 million people and became instrumental in building much of the U.S. public infrastructure we know today

There's a fundamental problem with open source, an that is that it's literally a rebranding of free software to remove the political agenda implied by freedom

But even then, there is another fundamental problem with free software and its agenda, in what freedom is meant: the freedom of the product, to be used and abused. There is no stress on freedom of the people, the people that do the work Happy May Day! 🚩

If you visit Istambul, look up at the walls of Ottoman-era mosques, madrasahs, tombs or other buildings. You might find "kuş sarayları" (bird palaces), gorgeous stone bird houses in the shape of elaborate mansions. These were mainly built between the 16th to 19th centuries, to show kindness to birds

We just donated to @wooorm.com as part of our OSS donation program! He's an engineer based in the Netherlands and the maintainer of 550+ projects. If your project uses Markdown, it probably already runs on one of his tools. His most well-known one is mdx for writing Markdown with JSX components.

We stopped donating to your open source project every month. Here's why. We believe keeping OSS maintainers motivated and showing them we value their work can help prevent burnout. So we're starting a new process for frontend solutions: 🧵

How it’s going with ESM vs CJS today: 29.6% of the popular packages on npm now includes ESM. Up from 28.8% a quarter ago. ESM-only is up from 10.8% to 11.5%. It’s perhaps all a bit soon after Node 18 became EOL on April 30, making `require(esm)` available everywhere. Maybe next quarter shows more

An update on how it’s going with ESM vs CJS: As of today, 29% of the popular packages on npm includes ESM. This remains an *approximation*: I think the idea is accurate but don’t put too much on the actual numbers. I fixed the algo to remove more spam, and detect more things as dual

Hello friends and welcome to a new “How is ESM vs CJS going!” 33.4% of the popular packages on npm now includes ESM. Up from 29.6% half a year ago. We have a third! ESM-only is up from 11.5% to 12.6%. This is also the impact of half a year of Node 18 being EOL, making `require(esm)` available

The graph was getting big and there’s a trend now, I plan on switching to half-yearly updates, and moved some odd quarterly updates out. Also, npm became unusable, this crawl uses `ecosyste.ms` by @andrewnez.bsky.social, thanks Andrew! Data seems to work! Code: github.com/wooorm/npm-e....

Friends! I am thinking of doing other things than open source all the time. But I am not yet sure what. If you think of some work that I might be good at—probably related to javascript, rust, compilers, syntax trees, content, web—please send me a message!
