further enshittification of the internet, this somehow went into my spam despite the invite only being good for tonight so i almost completely missed it

imagine if everyone on a bike trail walked on the right side and people on scooters didn't sometimes ride on the left side for some reason. it could be like an autobahn.

“You can just start your own studio!” Brother I do not WANT to own a business. I don’t want to be anybody’s boss. I want to write, which is the thing i’m good at!!!

misinformation annoys me no matter what the intention is. obviously, this site is nowhere near as bad as others. At least most people have morals on here. but reading comments here is somewhat soul crushing when so many people outright lie for fun just because they want to moral-grandstand better.

i think a lot of people claim their maximum comprehensive reading speed is actually their average reading speed and that their skimming speed is their maximum comprehensive reading speed. Ive seen someone read at like 400 WPM and say they *always* read that fast. that's for sure skimming 😭

I told this to someone and they said I probably only believe that because I'm slow in the brain. I did find an article of a study that found the adult average was 200-260WPM, much less than the 300-400WPM average that you can find people sharing online. testmyreading.com/guides/avera...

testmyreading.comThe Ultimate Guide to Average Reading Speed (2024 Data)We analyzed the largest peer-reviewed studies on reading speed across ages, professions, and formats. Discover the true 238 WPM baseline.

i think the confusion probably comes from the fact that you can't distinguish between skimming and comprehensive reading if the material is too easy to understand. Like if you are reading a YA novel, you will probably still understand everything even if half the words were erased.

the world in my lifetime used to be a really beautiful, strange, occasionally cynical but always new, place. it's been difficult in the last year to feel like that world has died, replaced with nothing but a recycled version of itself. most of us sleepwalking, the few of us awake perpetually crying.

you are actively not being present in the moment when you're thinking about how much your'e enjoying (or not enjoying) the moment.

this is something that every critic and artist has to learn in order to be critical of art while still being fully immersed in the experience. the solution is simple but not easy. think about the experience only after the experience has passed. dont try to analyze it while it's still happening.

all the comments are so pro AI too. i knew there was censorship and propoganda on that app, but I didn't realize how obviously blatant it was.

My new mid life crisis is I want to set a new highest PP record for myself in Osu. Last time I did that was over 5 years ago. They're saying it can't be done.

are yall sure tiktok was good back in the day? or did yall just not have a fully functional brain cause you were still in high school?

i know life's not a race and all that. but I feel like Im so far behind in life right now. istg Im finishing my entire accelerated degree in less than 6 months. mental health be damned.

When I say "the reviews of this movie are bad", I'm talking about the reviews among people I follow. I have never once considered using the averaged opinion of every letterboxd user to decide if I want to watch a movie.

"why don't you watch the movie and form your own opinion instead?" 1. I don't have infinite time in the world 2. there are other movies I could watch instead

my favorite youtubers I follow are those who upload inconsistently once every few months. i think this might be a metaphor about something.

"i put minecraft in elden ring" "i put tarkov in skyrim" its fascinating to see what a completely uncreative mind spits out when granted the ability to generate mods via AI Code. it's some ready player one bs. every time.

why is it that everyone I know has to be doing something in order to hang out with me. am i so boring that no one can have a conversation with me without checking their phone, watching a show, or playing videogames "in the background". i'd much rather hang out without the distraction.

i love being a, "I'm really bad at this but I will do it anyway" type of person but it kinda sucks that by doing something, I will always inevitably become somewhat good at that thing and then I can't use myself as a good example of someone who does things that theyre bad at anymore.
