The PM is still failing to understand the threat of the #climateemergency. Andy Burnham will “sleepwalk” into climate disaster if he fails to get a grip on a series of important policies whose combined impact could scupper plans to reach net zero. #stoprosebank #noheathrowexpansion

The lessons from Brazil and Serbia? Don't concede one inch of ground to the far right. Don't appease. Don't triangulate. Don't grovel. Don't say they have "legitimate concerns". Mobilise your base, and fight them with all the democratic means at your disposal.

The UK gov was able to approve #Jackdaw because UK targets are woefully outdated. The current ‘Carbon Budget’ was set 15 years ago back when 2°C of warming was considered ‘safe’. It wasn’t tightened as the threat picture worsened due to concerns about public acceptance.

Am reminded of a quote from @kevinclimate.bsky.social “There’s no such thing as a non-radical future.” ‘The world needs to cut carbon emissions by nearly a fifth in the next four years, and by close to half within a decade, to avoid overshooting climate targets by a disastrous margin.’

Approving the Jackdaw gas field solves none of our problems, while contributing to the existential crisis of climate breakdown. The government has privileged special interests above the general interest. It's a shameful, cowardly decision.

Insulating Britain’s homes and investing in heat pumps would do more to cut the cost of living, create jobs & boost the UK’s economy than drilling for new oil. It would provide about 50,000 new jobs spread across thousands of small businesses. #stoprosebank #nonewoilandgas @andyburnham.bsky.social
