Had a text debate with a family member today on AI. Things I notice: AI users go on and on in their self-defense. Almost like they’re trying to convince themselves rather than me. Anti-AI arguments, meanwhile, are clear, concise, and fairly irrefutable.

Do we have to treat AI users like most of us are treating maga? Make it so socially shameful that they’ll at least learn not to talk about it, and some will even learn to start making different choices? Kind of seems that way.

Incidentally, I quite like the term "cognitive surrender." That just blatantly sounds like something nobody wants. We should use that term frequently when discussing AI. Well done on choosing that term, researchers!

AI users also come off deeply insecure. They want us to approve. We anti-AI folks, meanwhile, feel secure in our stance and don‘t care if you want to rot your brain, we’re just giving you a friendly warning about how your “art” might be received.

One argument given by this person was that their millennial engineer kids like AI and told them all the cool things it can do. Engineers are the source of this problem. They aren’t who you ask. If I wanted the truth about the healthfulness of fast food, I would not ask an executive at McDonald’s.

I had a video go viral on Instagram, and gained about 100 followers in a day. But I looked at each profile, and I’d say 95% either had zero posts or a private profile. Thus probably most are bots. What even is the point of going viral, then? Thanks, I hate it. #metasucks

And it was not even a video about my books. Of course not. It was a silly, irrelevant linguistics thing that lasted 30 seconds. This entire thing has been very stupid.

I logged onto Facebook out of vague curiosity, and within a minute came across a post on my feed about the flying Tesla, which had loads of comments by men claiming they could TOTALLY fly that sick car. So. I'm not missing anything by staying off FB, and neither are you. In case you wondered.

ROME (AP) — Vatican says Pope Leo XIV has lung cancer and that the lower lobe of his right lung was removed.

We watched Monty Python's Life of Brian w/ our 17-yo. He said afterward, "Why don't more movies look like that these days? I like how that looked, with the buildings, and the costumes." Basically he means real-life filming, no CG or AI or whatever. And some endearingly cheap animation ofc.

Granted, they did film in some awesome-looking legit-Middle-East locations! Camels and all. So it was not just a sound stage either, like the cheapest of films back in the day. But still, not the highest-budget of films, I'm guessing.
