Prediction markets are the perfect pastime for history's prisoners. If you fancy yourself a plaything of the gods whose future is already written, then prediction markets are a way for you and your fellow prisoners to bet on what torments will come next.

Or do we let the stupidest, worst people among us lead us into the ecofascism of border walls, drone warfare, and exterminationism? That's our choice. We've had generations of being told to "vote with our wallets" instead of organizing in political, labor and social movements.

Do we create full employment for every person who will live for the next 300 years, relocating our coastal cities inland, treating the sick, retrofitting our infrastructure, and accommodating our neighbors who are driven out of their homes?

The insistence that we can change things is an active posture. It's an *activist* posture. At its radical best, sf is activist, because it engages with more than what the machine does, insisting on changing who the machine does it *for* and who the machine does it *to*.

Prediction is a weak and helpless activity, the obsession of people who don't think they can change anything. It's the superstitious dread that gives rise to astrology. Far better to be a Luddite who asserts that there is more than one way to introduce a technology to a society.

Look, I know all the reasons we got here, but we really need to start seriously thinking about what we do in a world where The Markets punish whole countries for voting for decency, compassion, and fairness. We must stop pretending the capitalist machine is an objective, value neutral force.

It's very, very telling, I think, that the markets are so concerned about the pro-democracy incumbent winning

Bradford was the Zionist backed candidate who used an Israeli AI app to target likely voters and lost. They called Chow "Hamas" because she didn't sic the cops on Palestine protests. He ran an anti-bike lane, pro genocide, pro data centre campaign and got his ass handed to him. Feels good.

Question, so if Super Mario Brothers tells us that flowers make plumbers throw fire at turtles, and science says that plumbers actually fix pipes in exchange for money…can anyone explain it?

you are alarmed reading this shit that would not even a year ago completely end someone's career if they were anybody else, but I guarantee you in a year if nothing is done these people will just openly be praising hitler, and directly begging the public to kill because they'll be pardoned

Usually in order to be a Robin Hood style hero one must redistribute the wealth. But in this case I'm happy to let them keep it. They've done the good work already.

In 2012, I went to a screening of The Wrath of Kahn and Q&A with Walter Koenig to celebrate his Walk of Fame star. He talked about the illegal scams he ran to fund his early acting days in NYC. Like staging an accident at a building under construction. Way past the statute of limitations, he said.

Christopher Reeve IS the Man Of Steel!: cover art by Terry Hoffman for a planned Atari game tie-in with 1983’s Superman III. When the movie got a (deserved) critical drubbing, the game was cancelled.

There's this weird thing happening in society where, in order to save the arts, the common person will give their hard earned money to anyone but artists.

Does it need to be said that Mass Effect shouldn’t exist without the developers and team that was working on this game? Either they come back and make the game they were, or Mass Effect dies. kotaku.com/mass-effect-...

like I seriously don't think people understand how this shit works, and if they do they're hoping we don't every time you use AI, you train it. that's why it's been free or cheap up until recently despite it's insane cost, they need that volume of training input. But since AI is just a sorting-

For real, every single person involved in getting the police called is an unsalvageable human being. You are lost, forever. This poor fucking family.

"She's not really a STAR TREK fan," I told Walter Koenig (1936-2026) when my then-girlfriend and I met him at an autograph show in 2009. "Good for her," he said dryly, as he collected my fee for his signature. "She has better things to do." Farewell to a real one. #RIPWalterKoenig #StarTrek #TVSky

The film industry is moving a LOT faster than the comics business to embrace "A.i." slop and displace actual creative professionals. Directors in particular seem to be embracing it, which saddens me, since that creates rifts between the different crafts. Seems bad all 'round!

Walter Koenig's Pavel Chekov was one of Gene Roddenberry's biggest swings with the original series. For season 2, he put a Russian on the bridge of the Enterprise, on prime time network television, just 5 short years after the Cuban Missile Crisis and during the height of the Cold War. 🥺
