Considering that Representative Al Green gave us the most eloquent visual of protest at the SOTU maybe The 2000s could up their game. I'd like to see unity from all Democrats and Independents to clean out this toxic Republican Congress and Supreme Court. For some, age is just a number.

Disagree. We need to shake every g-d thing we have. He at least DID something! Not to mention he’s 77- 2000’s were good years. Everyone of those Dems should have continued in the cane shaking vein.

It’s not embarrassing but a human and genuine response to a lying, fascist, pig. Of course, throwing his shoes at the bastard would have been even better.

Other than those who walked out, Rep Green's and Rep Stansbury's resistance are the only displays really covered by the media. Should there have been more? absolutely! But I applaud them.

Oh wow…reading replies, please say you weren’t aiming this at Al Green the ONE Dem with the courage to make good trouble. I thought you were referring to the spineless color coordinator silent respect the office idiots with their thumbs up their butts.

Instead of disjointed boycotts, live streams to their supporters, pink suits, and lollipop signs, Dems should've attended Trump's speech and walked out en masse. They should've given little Russian flags to the Republicans on their way out. Disruption. Not this endless, feckless bullshittery.

I agree that the Dems lost a Golden opportunity to make a statement. They should have laughed at every lie. They should have mimicked every Republican response to exaggeration. They would have controlled the circus. I don't agree that they should have walked out. That would have let Trump win

And so we see, yet again… in real time… how feckless and useless the dems have become. Stop playing by the old rules, you idiots! Play politics in your office. Become fighters in public! It’s all about perception, and you’re perceived as being too old and out of touch. Make some fucking noise!

I imagine we wouldn't have to "shake our canes" if Republicans obeyed the law and archaic, out-of-touch Democratic Party leadership actually did something of substance when Republicans don't obey the law

I DISAGREE!! Every democratic congressman congresswoman and senator should have stood up one at a time and followed suit until every one was pulled out. DISRUPT! Republicans ONLY respect strength.

I’m not donating another nickel until Dems take the gloves off and start fighting for our country! The hell with decorum. Our nation is going up in flames. Stop the coup!

It IS our fault for taking it ONE guy in the address took a stand and the others sat there.. WE have to get off our asses I think Kinzingers message was clear Apparently not since people are attacking him That's another reason we will lose

That was a weak, pitiful display of protest. Sitting quiet? I could think of a lot better, more effective, two word phrases to put on those sign. I respect those that walked out….but damn. Where’s the fire?!

An idea for Dems. Here's how to squeeze Russian oil income, hit its war machine, and aid the US all at the same time. And it’s not complicated. The US could easily meet India’s oil needs, replacing Russia. Is Trump willing to hit Putin where it hurts to benefit the US? cepa.org/article/wean...

cepa.orgWeaning India off Russian Oil — A Proposal for Team TrumpThere is a way to squeeze Russian oil income, hit its war machine, and aid the US economy. And it’s not complicated.

What do you suggest? I am not being snarky, I honestly don’t know what the correct action a Dem should have taken last night. I get a PR campaign and a unified message but I also think Americans need to wake up and nothing Dems do will make that happen until real pain hits their daily lives.

The only leverage Dems have is a government shutdown. I hope they use it, but it will be difficult and painful. They will need to control the narrative. I hope they can. All the other stuff is performative and doesn’t really do anything. Town Halls in their home districts seem helpful.

Sadly we have 200 Democrats in congress more concerned about keeping their 6 figure income that fighting the good fight... Where is the party of "GOOD TROUBLE"? I'm sick in my stomach. #LeaderJeffries has the energy of a #Sloth and the courage of an #Opossum. We'll not surrender without a fight.

I think we all need to accept that no republicon is ever going to be an ally beyond the temporary. Appreciate his help, but he still helped drive the country into several ditches and telephone poles before he decided he didn’t want to wash trumpy’s balls

Exactly. He hates us just like the tea party did. And it often shines through in moments like these where it’s hard to miss that he’s not lifting a damned finger to do anything about the monster he helped unleash except to be a backseat legislator

Adam,we are in the FIGHT OF OUR LIVES and we just CRITICIZE DEMS.They are either NOT DOING ENOUGH OR PROTESTING TOO MUCH.WE NEED A HUGE TENT BUT WE CAN NEVER UNITE WITH DEMS BECAUSE FOR AMERICA CRITICISM AND ARGUING RULES THE DAY WHILE THE SOCIOPATH AND TEAM STAY UNITED!

Dear Adam, Please tell your former party and ex colleagues that they’re a co-equal branch of government. They don’t have to cave in to Trump, Putin, Musk and the ultra wealthy. Sincerely, The Constitution P.S. At least Rep. Green and Democrats don’t hide from the people or skip town halls.

OMG, exactly this! Stop posturing like it’s the early 2,000’s and actually DO SOMETHING! Our country is collapsing and needs ACTION with results NOW. Not more memes, trendy catch phrases or recaps of what they are doing. We can see (& feel) that already!

The real problem at the moment is that the Democratic party has no leader. It needs the party to choose somebody to rally around, lead them and be the direct opposition to Trump and to direct the party in a unified response for the next 4 yrs.

1/2 At least he did something that directly ridiculed and called out Trump. And he stood his ground while Trump and Johnson got pissed and had him removed. Every single Democrat should have done the same thing during that bullshit speech instead of sitting there.

2/2 Crockett & a couple of others stood, turned their backs on him & walked out but the rest just sat and scowled like kids being scolded. Slotnik spoke well but it was the same old same old. It should have been Sanders or Warren, the 2 Dems with the highest approval ratings in the party right now.

The Democrats should have clapped and cheered incessantly. Trump would have been so confused. He wanted them to be angry, so don’t. Interrupt with clapping at every statement and standing ovations, he would have completely off tempo and it befuddled the orange idiot.

Who’s stopping them? Get on with it, do it, don’t whine and complain, get on with it. Bit sick of hearing from all these talented young people with all the ideas who don’t seem to realize you create your own momentum

At what point does a person become embarrassingly old? Just curious what your criteria are. Youth and vigor don’t mean much if they aren’t used to stand up and loudly rail against tyranny. I’d rather be old and courageous than sit silently while dumb fucks of all ages ruin the country.

A person becomes an embarrassingly old fuck when they choose not to pass on their responsibilities to the under generation and act as a mentor instead of the tip of the spear. This is true of any discipline.

I agree that the "elder statesman" posture is important, imparting knowledge and institutional history, but since these are elected individuals, one has to ask where the replenishing people are. Leadership is not about age, but effectiveness. You can be 35 and pretty useless as a representative.

Where have you been? Older people have been trying to pass the torch for years. Gawd, we gave you Obama for eight years and we got Trump in return. I don't see anyone shoving aside gray hairs to hold federal office. Or even in many cases state. Push us out, we're waiting.

Kinzinger gets it. Got to D's mess up and then watch his own party fall into the grasps of a cult. I wish there was a leader that can get all the decent R's that were kicked out and all the decent D's that are pushed aside and downplayed to make shit happen. Yang gets it, but he isn't the guy.

No. He was the only one expressing the correct level of moral outrage that is needed and the rest should have walked out with him in solidarity. I support Al Green.
