God speed to these pilots and those rescuing them. It speaks highly of our military that so much work goes into search and rescue. I can't ignore the politics behind this, though. They never should have been put in this situation in the first place. I just hope they are not lost in this debacle.

I was made to believe by congress people like yourself that our fighter pilots and equipment were top of the line - more have crash/shot down in this admin than sinnce last REpublican war monger. So why are they even being shot down, technologically? And why if they aren't doing anything illegal?

Question was “any way to defend..” answer is flares…plus maneuver. This can work against many detection/trackers, including missile seekers. IR tracking is decades old. It’s not a surprise they are using it. And I am not denying this is a problem to solve. Just answering a question from experience.
