Here’s the very simple truth. We should ban all Gerrymandering. Until then, to unilaterally disarm is political suicide and malpractice.

I agree! But what are we supposed to do when we are in the midst of a fascist takeover. Were you talking about this when you were in office? Has ANY Republican in recent decades talked about getting rid of gerrymandering and the electoral college???

Yes. To promote fair play while retaining state control over elections, as the Constitution provides for, we can establish an inter-state compact for divising a common approach to drawing legislative and congressional districts. It would constitute a "ceasefire" in the gerrymander wars.

I am in favor of a national algorithm, created with bipartisan agreement, that would be applied dispassionately by computers, that would reassign Congressional districts every time that the 10-year census numbers are finalized. District assignment for state legislatures remains under state control.

“Tit for tat” is appropriate for all circumstances until it escalates to Mutually Assured Destruction. I want to see a wave of anti-corruption and anti-SA/CSA lawmakers sweep elections and deliver a functioning government.

The ONLY way this will work is if we redistrict EVERY state, until EVERY district on the map looks close to a rectangle. (I’m looking at YOU, Ohio.) I can see districts following rivers, or county lines, but right now, they look like a kid finger-painted them while on 10 cups of coffee.

All one has to do is watch how the Republicans cheat at every and any opportunity to suppress the vote. The crooked bastards are relentless. That's what they do. Now with this crook in the WH,and a gutless Republican goose stepping Congress,it is IMPERATIVE THAT DEMOCRATS need to fight fire with fire.

Gerrymandering wouldn’t matter if people weren’t so party entrenched. A good start would be outlawing single party ballot options and present only candidate names, in random order, without party affiliation on ballots?

If we can get both parties to agree. Unfortunately your party's leader decided to start this fight through coercion whereas the Democratic led states are at least putting it up for a vote.

We🇺🇸 are so winning.....👇

This video posted by Iran’s consulate in Hyderabad, which mocks Trump for his latest ceasefire extension, isn’t as sophisticated as the LEGO videos. But it still must drive Trump crazy! 🤣🤣

The whole thing is broken beyond repair - the undemocratic electoral college and the way we allocate senate representation are much bigger problems. Unfortunately neither will be changed.

I wonder what Adam's vote was when it was time for him to cast his ballot. Just because he was forced out over the whole (R) party Trumpcult, doesn't mean that Adam upheld democratic principles before that moment in time. Don't believe me? Just ask Adam what his thoughts are on Homosexuality et al.

You're talking about a person that voted for traitor trump...the dishonorable POS liar and treasonous rapist...TWICE! I'm glad that Adam turned his head toward democracy and honor at some point, but so did MTG...right? Their judgement is clearly flawed, so while I'm glad now, I still don't trust em

Which is because manipulating zoning districts is the only way republicans can eke out the votes they need to win. They are that vastly unpopular AND they know it. That party is dead in the water. Deservedly so.

And the very political Supreme Court thought it was helping the right wing when it allowed just over one third of Wisconsin voters control two thirds of the seats. Funny thing happens on the way back to democracy.

In Australia we have an neutral independent Electoral Commission which oversees all boundaries, voting practices, enforcement of laws re voting. They are fiercely neutral.

However until there is a ban on gerrymandering the Dems need to fight fire with fire - especially when the republicans are so stupid they end of Dummy Mandering....

Yep. The RepugliKKKans started this gerrymandering war. Now they must own it! Hopefully sanity will return and we can end gerrymandering. But for now we must use every tool in the toolbox to save our democracy!!

How about not having political parties run elections at all? How about one independent electoral commission for the entire country like the Australian Electoral Commission? But, sadly, I guess that will never happen.

The root of the problem is First-Past-The-Post election system. Even ranked choice is better. Any election system that adds proportional element solves Gerrymandering.

While I believe there should be no Gerrymandering, but when one if fighting against one who doesnt follow any rules, we should call his bluff and fight fire with fire. Otherwise everyone should be on the same playing field.

Nope. Not until this current regime is out and behind bars. You can take the Republican out of office, but you can't take the Republican out of you

An app on an iPhone could create equally and impartially drawn districts in 30 seconds. It’s not rocket science. Many districts would go from red or blue to purple - maybe most of them. This would remove a great deal of the disfunction caused by Republicans.

Every vote DOES count under the Electoral College 435 of the EC Votes are created from the House of Representatives which arrived there due to your 1 vote 1 voice 100 EC Votes created from the Senate to represent State Equality House Size needs to be fixed for it to work properly again

Some don't want all people to be able to vote... but some sure want their livestock well represented in Congress. And some, I assume, are fine sheep.

So now the gop wants to stop gerrymandering once the democrats start? 🙄 Sorry Adam, your party started this shit but we are finishing it! Time to give the gop a taste of their own medicine and gerrymander them out for generations!

Selfishness can be a byproduct of systemic inequality. What if we address the economic and social structures that breed self-interest, rather than just teaching critical thinking?

You're on to something. The electoral college is a major contributor to the issue. But what about campaign finance reform? Could that be the root of the problem?

Oh so now it's a problem, Adam! This is an ancient playbook of the republican party that backfired stupendously against them. Too many, even so called liberals, looked the other way as voter suppression ran rampant in minority communities across America, every election.

Term limits on the Supreme Court, overturn Citizens United, DC needs a senator and house representative, electoral college, ban gambling apps that are not sports...

Texas, under trump's direction, started it last year. Of Dems were going to fight back. Passing a law banning off year gerrymandering is the only way.

In Canada, representatives are elected to entire set regions for provincial and federal and municipalities for local councillors. Having said that, our corrupt provincial leader Doug Ford is trying to take over 7 regions by appointing their leaders. But we are turfing that fascist soon.

You should know that the Democrats have tried this and failed. They tried in 2017, 2019, and then again in 2024. There's a party that didn't go along with it. I wonder which party that could be?

Not just that. We don't need congressional districts at all. We should just elect slates of candidates. If your slate gets 60% of the vote statewide, your slate gets to fill that percentage of the state's total house seats. We also need to eliminate the hard cap on 435 and apportion better.

I totally agree. And the Democrats missed a chance to talk about Independent Commissions when the Republicans were talking about the SAVE act. They should have been on the offensive and force Republicans to defend gerrymandering.

While we are at it, every senator and representative should be running under a legal agreement with its voters that allow for a recall. Side step the Supreme Court decisions, and make it a legal agreement with the elected person and its voters, not the “seat” and its voters

Well, obviously we should. We should require all states to get an independent commission (say in Finland, perhaps) to draw the voting maps. And we should make voting mandatory, with vote by mail in all states, instead of trying to suppress the vote. And get rid of that stupid electoral college.

Repeal the Apportionment Act that mandated single-member districts. Create multi-member districts (determined by independent agency) and switch to some variant of ranked-choice voting. That would make Gerrymandering extremely difficult.

While we are at it, can we: 1 - Get rid of the electoral college. 2 - Implement ranked choice voting at least for Federal offices. 3 - campaign finance reform. It makes me sick to see how much money is wasted on commercials that none of us want to see.

Missouri is actually moderate (to us 😂), like 60% GOP. But, as a heavily gerrymandered state, elected representatives are far-right whackjobs who spend most of their time trying to monitor/regulate/punish gynecologists, women, and blue cities. It would be farcical if it weren't real.

Agreed. I didn’t vote yes because I wanted gerrymandering. I want a nationwide ban on gerrymandering. I voted yes because there was no fire extinguisher in sight therefore I had to #FightFireWithFire

We should be choosing are representatives, with Gerrymandering our representatives pick their constituents. That’s not democracy. We have the tools to create fair districts, now let’s find the will to use them. Vote MAGA OUT! 🇺🇸 ⚖️ 🗽

Ban all congressional maps period and go to proportional representation. We’ve calcified a system that was created before John Stuart Mill was even born.

To all those “ban the electoral college” replies, democrats have to win elections first, at all levels, in every state and in overwhelming numbers; removing the electoral college requires a constitutional amendment which has a very high bar. constitutioncenter.org/the-constitu...

constitutioncenter.orgThe 5th Article of the U.S. ConstitutionThe Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States,...

American Politics is forever altered. I’m heartened to see the Democrats not just fighting, but executing a strategic plan with an impactful, needle moving result.

I have an idea that might make gerrymandering much more difficult. No district can have more than 4 sides. If one of them is a state boundary, that is one of the sides, plus another three that must meet at right angles.

Use simple math for House of Representatives and Senate. Apportion by votes. If you have 10 congressperson, each 10% is one Congressman. You get 48% of the vote you would apportion 4 congressperson. Use stack vote ranking for the remainder. Also all parties are equal since there are no districts

Banning gerrymandering would also require a redo of all districts across the country, and let’s get rid of Citizens United/$$$ and make voting accessible equally in all districts.

A simple (National) guideline would be to require that the fewest splits be made to existing cities, towns and counties when equalizing population of voting districts Some splits always have to be made, minimize the number of splits made to the municipal and county subdivisions we live in

Yes. There are still a lot of people who want to take the higher road and not stoop to the tyrants level. It doesn’t help to be morally superior though if you don’t have a voice anymore.

the number of representatives in the house needs to double. I want my state to have open primaries with “instant runoff” ranked choice. and the primaries should be less than 100 days before the general election, not in march for november.

We tried in Ohio. Overwhelming bipartisan voter support to pass legislation. The already gerrymandered GOP state level officials have completely ignored the law time after time after time. It's exhausting.

Wisconsin dem gov Tony Evers is set yo retire in Nov. He has been pushing a law to ban gerrymandering before he leaves office. With the recent win for state Supreme Court, the GOP controlled legislators may pass it. That's where we need to be. Maybe this will push the agenda.

I still say, there should be rules to district drawing...such as no curved lines, no more than 8 right angles, and it cannot be more than twice as long as wide and vice versa.

I agree with the principle, but as a practical matter, what criteria do you use to draw any boundaries? Even the boundaries of the individual states make no sense. Do we need two Dakotas? A full twenty of our states have a smaller population than Puerto Rico.

One day, the republicans will not be able to contain the blue wave coming their way and the democrats will win a supermajority. Then they will finally be able to get rid of the electorial collega. And ironically, it will be Donald J Trump who will make that possible.

If we did away with gerrymandering would that mean that the person with the most votes would win? I believe all elections should be based on that premise.

Ban all campaign donations. Use only the popular vote or completely revamp the electoral college. Go back to NO politicians owning businesses while in office. End lobbying. End market investing by politicians.

Do you think that the current system is entrenched that a politician couldn’t run against it? I feel like a truly populist political party that ran against the current 2 party system would do well and is what we need - IF it can overcome the headwinds of the current system.

I am thinking like: Ban gerrymandering Ban corporate money Limit spending Ranked choice primaries Term limits Ban insider trading End the electoral college Tie congressional pay to the median US income Limit or eliminate congressional pensions

This ban and other reforms won't be agreed to at any time as matter of principle; especially by one side, until they are in an position of superiority.

I live in California and more than a decade ago I voted for putting the Congressional redistricting into the hands of non-partisan commissions. I also voted to allow mid-decade redistricting by Democrats last year. You have to fight fire with fire.

Becerra has the credentials U.S. House of Representatives (1993-2017) California Attorney General (2017-2021) Secretary of Health and Human Services (2021-2025) Xavier Becerra for governor of California Experience counts!

Here’s an even easier solution. Get rid of the Electoral College. It’s outdated and based on racism. It’s only job is control. I mean…. Seriously! We know it! You guys know it! WTF!

I totally agree. 💯% Gerrymandering should be outlawed federally in all states. No one party should have the power to put people in Congress that don't belong there. They are not representing all of the constituents of the state.
