we just pushed an update to search so it favors recency more, which should give better results for topical things, notable people, news, etc. might need more tuning, so give it a try and let me know what you think. props to @treethought.xyz for this update

Can we turn it off, so it doesn't distort our search results so they're recency agnostic? It could be helpful for say, current events, but would be a disaster for say historic events.

>search "underwater" >filter posts by media only >news, news, news, embeds, embeds, embeds, links, links, links >same news posted by many people (and bots) Can I get filtering posts by images and videos only? Do you even know what media means, dipshit?

real curious why web design guys nowadays refuse to just put all the filters in there you know people want them they're decades old concepts how is it so difficult to allow people to sort by anything and group by anything and limit by anything and AND or OR and BUT or NOT anything make it good

Very low priority, but it would be neat to see a Top (day, week, month, year, all time) and Hot (popular recent posts) for search. Kinda like Reddit.

It is feeling fun!! I just did a quick search for WNBA and got a bunch of posts from the last day that have a lot of engagement already. That feels like what I want to see!

but when will the Latest tab prioritize recency more, huh? I want it to show me posts so recent they haven’t even been made yet,

Hi Alex, do the “show more/less” buttons on the Discover feed still work? They feel broken as of the last couple of weeks, as I’ve been using the show less one quite often and still see similar posts. Cheers

Yeah I think it needs more tuning. Before it would basically only show posts from 2024, the time when there was the most activity on the site (🥲), now I searched for something and the first five posts were from 1 day ago, 5 hours, 12 hours, 3 days ago, 4 hoursago, That’s too much like recent tab

I’ll give you another exemple of something I know how it was before this update because I searched it a couple of times in the past: permissioned data. Before it would show most of Daniel‘s leaflets, now you can’t find them even scrolling down a lot. Ok prioritizing new stuff but a mix is better

I'm finding it quite nice. I'm getting lots of more recent relevant results that seem to strike a good balance. I would like a way to find the actual top results of all time, though.

Recency helps live events but fails as a universal ranking prior. Breaking news and an artist’s decade-old practice need different decay curves; relevance should age according to query intent.
