Republicans are talking about "social media" as the cause of political violence because it's a convenient distraction from the fact they refuse to acknowledge that Donald Trump does more than anyone in our country to heighten tensions and incite the crazies

Didn't we just live through a Republican House in the last administration that has a committee on the Weaponization of the Government because the government talked to social media companies when it came to combatting dangerous misinformation about a pandemic?

Trump legitimized and coddled Nick Fuentes - and put his stamp of approval on angry white racists. Trump is the fertile ground on which this hate has grown and spread.

It's always something else instead of dealing with the root cause. Blame video games instead of guns. Blame the other side instead of looking introspectively. Blame immigrants instead of their own failures.

Social media is only partly responsible, I have no doubt this guy was way too online, but as far as setting the tone goes I think it's the authoritarian in Chief who is responsible. His influence cannot be minimalized.

They won't think twice about banning any and every social media app if it becomes weaponized against the elite. A true voice of the people. That's why decentralized platforms should be used. These apps owned by billionaires and their shareholders will ALWAYS be victim of oppression and suppression.

* Trump does not care or need to explain anything, which is the classic archetype of a tyrannical ruler who exercises power through fear & paranoia rather than reason or accountability. It is pointless to expect logic reasoning from Trump or his Fox News appointees administration *

Hmmm...seems like MAGA morons have mastered social media hate speech and conspiracies starting with the leader, felon 47. But then all this is really a shill to create yet another diversion but we're not letting go...FFS

They are terrified of social media, because this is where we call them out on their BS. If they could shut us up, they could rule in peace, but as long as we keep making noise, there's a chance they might be held accountable for something. The threat we are terrorizing them with is accountability.

True! And he uses social media to do it! There really needs to be a movement to get off of social media. Not only will it bearing peace back to our country, but it will deprive billionaires of their income streams.

What can we do to help them see they are being manipulated by SM strategically created to divide us. A civil war is encouraged by those who are securely far behind the front lines. This is an economic war.

Social media is owned by oligarchs like Zuck, Musk & soon Ellison who all rely on algorithms & bots to normalize exactly what their fascism requires for minority control. With a 34 count convicted felon DEAR LEADER who ran saying he could shoot a man & still have support. bsky.app/profile/atru...

It is infuriating to watch Mike Johnson go on the air & scold Dems for inciting violence with their rhetoric on the same channel that not 20 minutes had one of its anchors refer to citizens as “the enemy within”

Easier to attack "media, libs, immigrants etc" when you find out your own are out against you if you are not radical enough. Trump created this by favoring certain MAGAS or being a TACO. Surely people can see what he is doing. Oh. well maybe not.

100% correct! Every time Donald Trump opens that shithole mouth of his, his hate filled, bigoted inflammatory rhetoric heightens tensions and incites the crazies! Every fucking time! Once again, after this tragedy, Trump has proven himself unable to do the right thing, unable to lead this country!

Republicans have a long history of blaming irrelevant factors for whatever it is they don't like. I'm old enough to remember their whipping boys comic books and "permissiveness." Their scapegoats come and go like women's fashions.

They own most social media platforms. Another self own. They’re like the kid who inadvertently shoots themselves in the foot while trying to figure out if the gun is loaded. Clueless. Just wish they were also harmless. But that ain’t happening.

Yes, not to mention that Trump himself started a social media company which is one of the biggest contributors to inflammatory and hateful rhetoric, so Republicans really should go to him directly and confront him about this issue if they are truly concerned about social media being the problem.

He’s always on social media. I haven’t heard the mental health excuse in regard to gun violence this time though. Didn’t fit their talking point I guess

At what point do we stop calling them "crazies", and start calling them "rational people who recognize that the Right can't be reasoned with"...? I'm not plotting to assassinate anyone, but you can be damn sure I perk up and have some strong desires anytime "Where's Trump?" starts trending.

American heritage is political violence. King George didn’t just grant freedom to the colonies. Violence compelled him. The Confederacy didn’t voluntarily quit slavery like the rest of the world already had. Political violence forced them to. All this current pearl clutching is almost humorous.

explain: Vile MAGA are blaming this on fascistic left leaning liberals. Yet they hate people of color Women Trans LGBT 🌈 Immigrants Migrants who pick our food Latino Spanish heritage people Asians Any one who is not Lily white Hate books 📚 Hate colors Lefty don't have A long list Of Hate

These are the same people who still claim Barrack Obama was the "most divisive president in history" even though Obama was thoroughly milquetoast and sat on his hands for the better part of 7 years

I know people who aren’t clever enough to use social media that will rage at the mere mention of Trump in a negative light. There’s something more visceral at work here.
