Burgum: "California was dependent on oil coming from the Strait of Hormuz. That was self-inflicted. They are gonna have high gas prices. You can thank Gavin Newsom for that."

Unless California has seceded recently from the US (no), Burgum seeks to appeal to the rubes, who won’t do their own research. Two countries have dominated US imports for years: Canada 🇨🇦 & Mexico 🇲🇽. elchemy.com/blogs/chemic...

Can we also know who in the heck does the hair of these goons?!? All these guys that go on Faux News have the WORST "I am a white man GOP politician" hair EVER.

These same clowns hate that the state has always been ahead of the curve re: fuel economy standards, etc. They also mock things like high speed rail. Like, California is trying to not be so dependent on oil, yet they work tirelessly to prevent this from happening.

Yep. Continue to prop up the idiots who set up this whole failing system back in the early 1900s. Look at all the industries this country has let go to shit or disappear. Steel, farming, auto, housing. Oil or coal? Nope, can't let that happen

This guy is either hopelessly stupid or dishonest. Blames Newsom for high gas prices. He’s the Secretary of Energy. Act serious, even if you are not pal. Woefully unqualified.

nothing but trolls. trump has made trolling standard practice in what was a civil society. At least people in top positions put on the face of seriousness. An agency like the EPA now brags about removing pollution rules for polluters as ushering in an era of prosperity.

Pretty much a “shoot yourself in the foot” moment when Gavin Newsom declared war on Iran. I can understand it, though. He was distracted by making sure all of the forests in California were being raked properly.

It is worth pointing out that the cost for gasoline in Texas after Republicans' latest Middle Eastern war increased by 30% YoY whereas in California which has decarbonized much of their transportation has only increased 24% YoY. For diesel it is 55% for TX & 40% for CA YoY.

Where did you find this information? I’d be interested to find out the same for Florida. Something that I’ve noticed is that states that DON’T have a state income tax, use other methods (like fees & fines) to fund their state operations. Florida & Texas are perfect examples of this.

It’s so effed up that they talk about California and New York as if they exist in different countries when those two states provide basically a third of the entire US’s GDP alone. Just imagine if a democratic administration talked about red states even close to this disrespectfully.

When I was in college we could hop a free ride from our campus library down to UCLA's. The 'sky' was orange and the mountains surrounding the city invisible. That's 1 big reason why prices are higher, special CA only blend to reduce smog.

Exactly right on this. And California banned new oil drilling permits in 2022, so they’re even more reliant on imports now—over 70% of their crude comes from overseas, mostly the Middle East.

Or they'll simply swap out their gas guzzlers for EVs. And sorry partner, but there other EV producers other Tesla in the US, and that might put a slash US Oil CEOs bottom line, you know, the ones that donate to him. Or maybe I'm just whistling Dixie.

Very little of California's oil comes from Iraq, but Burgum knows prices are the highest in the US due to taxes and emissions standards. Because of that and the gullibility of MAGA, he figured he could get away with such an obvious lie.

Sounds like Trump started an ilegal war against Iran that impacted California’s oil imports from the Strait of Hormuz to get back at Gavin Newsom for what? … not bending a knee to Trump? The most idiotic reason for starting a war that cost lives, billions and increased gas prices throughout the US

they know their voters are only watching fox and are haters living good of of dem work in society. newsom should ban/deal with somehow the fox propaganda machine

I think they did this the first administration as well but this time the blame assessment has gotten grander and requires much more creativity.

I take great comfort and satisfaction in the fact that people like Burgum are going to have to spend a small fortune on personal security when this is over.

Cool, but no mention of how high gas prices hit low-income families hardest? People act like this is just a political gotcha, but for some, it's rent or groceries on the line.

Cool, so we’re just gonna pretend like Californians struggling with insane rent and wages aren’t hit hardest by high gas prices? The human cost here is wild, but sure, blame it all on state policy.

They are and in a bubble. I went back east for my dad's funeral and my uncle chatted to me about all things bad in CA. My response was, "The only thing you've said that's true is that it's expensive." Upper middle class, educated white dude who lives in a town w/ extremely privileged white people.

Yeah, I have a few acquaintances like this, tuned out. Mostly retired folks who only associate with other wealthy, retired folks. But they can tell you they pay too much in taxes and despise social programs because 'who's paying for that?'. Sigh. Meanwhile they are jetting to London to watch plays.

The price of oil is set by global markets 🤦‍♂️ Gov. Newsom didn't have a say. He would not have started this war. Blaming him is as dumb as blaming President Biden. Donald is responsible.

Burgum must be thinking of the time Gavin Newsom ordered a California Navy destroyer to launch the tomahawk missile that killed more than 100 children. What's that? That's never happened? It was always Trump's war of choice starting on Day 1 all the way through Day 105. And counting.

I don’t usually discuss politics with neighbors because I am not a good debater, but my MAGA neighbor said to me yesterday, “If the rest of the world can get their votes counted in one day, why can’t California”? My hubs is the debater, and he would have had a good comeback ready.

What job will Burgum land post-admin? • Walmart greeter • Floor wax machine operator • Salesman standing ignored in timeshare kiosk at county fair • Something even more elegant
