this is by Far the most user friendly and motivating guide for html ive tried yet!! going step by step with my own page and actually learning /why/ things are done the way they are has been so useful, and makes the idea of getting into keeping a legit neocities page way less intimidating. tysm!!!

Briefly scanned so far but this looks really well done, thanks for creating it!! I LOVE seeing more and more people embrace good old simple HTML/CSS sites, and I'm happy you still went into some basic stuff like CSS frameworks and even more advanced stuff at the end. Will definitely share!

Yes! It teaches using alt-text for images and using semantic HTML. There is also a section on using ARIA roles for the main nav, so screen readers can pick up on which nav item is selected.

Yeah people getting into web dev as a career sometimes think every website needs FAANG tech. Like, React is fine but it was made to solve problems for a website with billions of users. Not every website needs that level of engineering. Start simple, scale up only when needed.

This is awesome! I've worked at FAANG for most of the last (does math, curses) 30 years. I started like this, with Notepad, IE2, and a paper book called Teach Yourself HTML in 14 Days

I really enjoyed this! And I want more indy, personal sites in the world. I've passed it along to a couple of friends who wanted a simple blog or to explore web dev.

Thanks. I actually spent 30 mins this morning typing away in TeachText. My first manually entered html in, uh … 30 years. About time, I guess? 😁

Thanks for making this #HTML learning material, Blake! Just shared it with my girlfriend. She’s excited to use it to build a site for her shiatsu therapy business 😄

I miss the days when lots of people I knew online had their own websites that were self-coded and not just a CMS or social media page. I hope this encourages more people to try their hand at it!
