I'm asking because I'm building an alternative to npmjs.com, including the admin ui piece I have a working mvp, although of course it's very ๐Ÿšง if this is something you'd like to contribute to, and you've experienced any of these pain points, let me know - always more fun to build together! ๐Ÿ™

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธ so ... for reasons: I would love to know people's frustrations with: - the current npmjs.com - admin user flows on npm web ui (and cli, locally) ๐Ÿ™

I had a great time publishing to JSR, unfortunately, the reach isnโ€™t there. So an alternative โ€œfrontendโ€ to NPM might be appreciated.

i actually take it back - yes it does need reach to be useful ๐Ÿ˜…. try to install your top 5 expected deps from work, and top 5 'fun' deps - they are not there xD but you can publish nicely, for sure!

If you are going to reduce the pain of setting up trusted publishing in any way then sign me up ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Had so much issues with npm ๐Ÿ˜ญ Specially with collaboration, giving a package access to @sxzz.dev was just impossible for some reason and we had to tinker some org setup. 100% opened to help on this idea !

Fundamentally, npm needs a more open community ecosystem, as previous feedback channels have largely disappeared. They should actively embrace broader community input rather than relying on exclusive or restricted channels.

Personally I'd be very conflicted here. I'm not sure further fracturing the ecosystem is a good idea. IMO we should either support JSR and the Deno team's efforts or we should improve npm as it exists. I feel like adding a _third_ variant (even if just a wrapper) is confusing.

To me this is one of the great challenges in the current JS ecosystem. There's a ton of energy and diversity, which is wonderful and means innovation/flexibility. But also folks don't seem to want to focus on aligning on solutions and improving those, roses and thorns.

Is there something specific JSR doesn't improve over the existing `npmjs.com` that your alternative would? Would it be more effective to contribute that to JSR directly and collaborate there?

I would like a copy package name button so that if I want to install multiple packages at once I don't need to select the package name and then copy it or use the 'copy install' button and then remove the "npm i" part

also a nice to have would be a link to a package's changelog(s). for example with a package that uses github the link could go to the releases page. maybe with a custom field in package.json a package maintainer could configure where the changelog(s) are in case something else is being used.

maybe also nice to have is a install command builder. for example. 1: at a package there is a button "add to command" 2: at the bottom right there is a popover/floating ui that has earlier selected packages 3: in the popover there is a way to copy the install command with all packages together

only issue is accessibility, like how should a visually impaired person find the popover. could maybe be a hot key like "ctrl+b" with accessibility link at the top

yeah definitely a good use case for collections (tbd name), being able to share lists to each other and then installing them from the list individually or all at once

Very exciting stuff: I'd _really_ love a better way to administer the maintainers/admins of a package. Last place I worked, it basically was all or nothing for the `@company` packages we had

Very excited to see the UI! Weโ€™re doing the same but without npm under the hood. Calling it the Pantry registry

I wish it npmjs didn't say "zero dependencies" for packages that have optional dependencies. Especially with the trend of more native tools, each platform native dep is listed as optional but you need at least one of them to use the package.

> if this is something you'd like to contribute to Would I like to collaborate with a person I enjoy on solving pains I feel with a stack I like? Why yes, yes I would. (Disclaimer: I have made a highly presumptuous assumption about your choice of framework. ๐Ÿคž)

...admin: - can't sort packages in any way, only default sort. oh my god. - can't change number of packages per page. I just want to cmd-f, please! - can't search packages in any structured way, only full text - the alignment on the /settings/:jpg/teams/team/:team/access page (attached screenshot) ๐Ÿ˜ญ
