Teeth, aka “luxury bones”. Things that you need not only to eat most foods, but actively affect your mental and physical well being. If I get an infection, it could result in my death. Yet, can’t have that covered, oh no. That’d be socialism or something!

I have noticed that many people who can’t afford a house might not have budgeted very well. I know times have changed but I was 30 when I bought my first home. Reagan was POTUS & interest rate was at 13 something %. The mortgage was ridiculous but it was mine. I didn’t spend much on anything else.

I would never have paid for expensive coffee when I could get coffee at work free. It wasn’t great coffee. I didn’t shop except for absolute necessities. I had a 15 inch b&w TV with rabbit ears that cost $60 so only local channels. The lives of people now is much different than it was then. No cell

phones just one that attached to the wall. No answering machine so if anyone called when I was out, too bad. Times were different, less $ spent on anything not essential. Houses were very expensive & Reagan helped the wealthy. Ketchup was a vege in school lunches.

Did you just say while Reagan was President?!?! Are you missing the point that while income has stayed stagnant from that time until now, the price of existing has steadily to astronomically increased. And it is just about to get worse when Elon fires all of those federal employees.

You just love to ignore data and give anecdotal evidence to ignore the current struggles. My parents had 3 kids, a mortgage, and zero student loans living off one income at the age of 30. I’m 30, with a masters degree and a FT job in my field and can barely afford rent.

You had it better!! All the data suggests this. Stop this BS when you were given every advantage like cheap education and decent wages. Even with your higher interest rates you are NOWHERE near the cost of a home today.

I don't disagree with the housing crisis in urban areas but I bought my house at 25 3 years ago in the Midwest... The crisis is in urban areas where density is high, if you live elsewhere it doesn't exist as much really...

I don’t know. I live in suburbs of Atlanta, and houses are insane, even in Alpharetta and Cumming, Ga which used to be considered the country, you can rent an apartment for under $2000 a month. Our house in Roswell, we could sale it and make tons BUT if we wanted to stay in area or even further

And great if whatever job u are in allows u to live far from any city. But not everyone can work remote or owns own business or has farm. Or can afford to drive several miles to get to their place of work. Dawsonville ga has tons of pilots but they can afford to drive to hartsfield.

Sadly, this takes me down a rabbit hole, so will attempt to be brief! 😁 This year we did not renew dental. Got tired of paying for something that covered NOTHING! The dentist even called me, saying, "We will NEVER take your insurance again!" Now, with NO insurance, paying significantly less! WTF

Haha! Sad, but true. Talk about human rights going "right into the trash can," more so if that is a "medical waste bin." What a dystopia we live in! Then they call us sci-fi/fantasy writers crazy!

According to UHC, and most other health insurance providers, teeth are optional. You will need to buy additional insurance to get them covered.

Really both my parents and my 3 sibs have false teeth Dad was 19. when they were young and my siblings you didn’t go to the dentist unless you had infected teeth. Dental insurance was unknown. I got my children dental care but paid for it.

I'm a healthcare worker, teeth is nothing compared to terrible living conditions and health issues my community faces. I try my best, but there is only so much staff can do when it comes to corporate greed

I’m Gen X, could barely afford our first house and I was in my 30’s. It cost $140,000 but I was making about $12 an hour. I’m not sure of a time that is was easy, or equitable

So hard. My parents bought their first house when they were barely adults. They paid $15k for it, brand new. My father worked and my mother stayed home. I think my dad made between $2 and $3 per hour in the mid 1960s as a meter reader for the electric company. My first house was 28k in the late 70s.

Wow! I wish more families purchased houses during the 2008 housing bubble. Some houses were selling for as low as 35K and now they’re worth about 250K. People were buying 10 to 12 houses back then and renting them out and they’re worth a fortune now.

But... but the STATISTICS! But the average wages! But the data! But the GDP per capita! All the lines went UP! The data says you're actually better off than ever before! Why don't you believe the data? Why?! PLEASE BELIEVE THE DATA! YOU'RE NOT REALLY STRUGGLING!

I think perhaps that the nature of the communities both live in has changed. The city my parents bought a home in was 1/5th the size then as it is now. For me to buy a home similar, that i can also afford, would require moving to a community of that smaller size.

I wonder if it is the choices made, the geography in which people live, wages, or all the above. My small sample size is 5 kids, 2 own homes, 3 do not... 2 of the 3 are by choice based on careers... All are working paying bills, and have cars... Some do better than others.

Our parents made way more money. bsky.app/profile/angr...

Disposable income per capita adjusted for inflation has gone down every administration regardless of party since LBJ. We are losing hard LBJ: $130,520 Nixon: $110,961 Ford: $95,602 Carter: $67,143 Reagan: $60,887 Bush: $54,005 Clinton: $53,895 W: $49,141 Obama: $48,811 Trump: $48,286 Biden: $46,557

It’s not that we made way more money. I know I didn’t. But we did have psychic security like healthcare and retirement benefits that were subsidized by the employer. It’s the greed and shareholder fear that has caused these problems. Corporatized America is problematic

Not my parents and they both worked full time and never smoked or drank. We had popsicles once ima whine for a treat. What generation is this referring to? Or just a general nonsense millennial post?

I feel like this hits closer to home than I wanted it to - it's hard to afford not only good healthcare but good beauty supplies (even for men - god knows what it's like for women) on a modern budget, so you look worse, so you feel worse.

Unfortunately, our votes didn't matter. The results were predetermined by those who could afford to buy them. I never miss an opportunity to vote, but I'm not blind to the fact that the exercise has become futile. If votes mattered, Kamala would be our incoming president.

20s. I'm not quite sure how much money I've dumped in my mouth, but if I were doing it all now, it'd be in the low to mid 5 figure range. Getting crowns is not fun, but they're better than spending your life looking like an extra for Deliverance or a word or two in some British sitcom.

My parents have rented the same 3 story town house with garage, driveway, front yard, backyard for 30 years. They pay $400 less rent per month than I do for a 1bd, 1ba. That's $1000 for them $1400 for me. They are normal working class folks and I hold down the same job as my mom, who makes the most.

Yup. And mine isn’t because of poor hygiene or drug use. My grandpa had “soft teeth” so the Navy pulled all of his at age 22 and gave him dentures. Even with brushing & flossing, I get cavities between my teeth. I’ve had 7 bottom teeth extracted & no partial - so eating is super fun.

My son is in his thirties. He refuses to even date seriously because he doesn't what to have a family until he's ready to take care of them properly. I told him that unless the economy picks up I may never see grandchildren.

They are getting rid of the fluoride, so that'll help. Seriously dental care is absurd. Spent over $8k this year already for my wife and kids teeth, and it's not like we're doing cosmetic work here. My dad is like, "why are you guys having the same type of dental issues we are having in our 70s?"

My parents, in the early 80s, didn't just buy a house. They had one BUILT. And they were considered middle class. I have no health insurance, live in a mobile home, and can't sneeze without soiling myself, and I'm older than they were when they built their house.

An act of buying and gathering a particular commodity more than one needs and earning money by selling it back into the market after its price goes up. You can buy the stock of this company. REAL Estate companies. Gov. is really loose ~

I had hypoplastic teeth (fancy for weak af). They started breaking & getting infected no matter what I did. The infections were becoming antibiotic resistant. 5k$ for extractions & basic dentures. I was only able to afford it bc a family member passed and left a small inheritance.

Before Reagan, unions were strong, employers provided health insurance to their employees for free or very little. Employers provided pensions for their employees. Savings and Loans existed to finance home loans. Billionaires and corporations paid their fair share of taxes.

When he took the throne he decreased the tax liability for the wealthiest from 70% to 28%, the deficit started and has continued since then. The gap between rich and poor has widened significantly and has led to the rise of the American Oligarch... He was a notorious bullshitter..

In addition to the FDIC for banks, the FSLIC insured Savings and Loans. Republicans deregulated them, leading to huge Savings and Loan failures, bankrupted the FSLIC, taxpayers had to bail them out and the Savings and Loans were take over by banks, during Reagan’s catastrophic presidency.

Of course, under George W Bush Republicans repeated their same bad policies, deregulating banks, leading to the massive bank failures and taxpayer bailouts that Obama had to clean up.

And each Republican administration gives massive tax cuts to billionaires and corporations, furthering the deficit. Hurting everyone else. Trickle down has never worked. Period!
