Matt Darling pushes a lot of Stancil buttons--in that I like them both and find them infuriating enough to follow either of them--but "are there numbers to back up this claim?" is a powerful question that should not be reacted to in as hostile a manner as people frequently do

Also - Matt leads with the numbers. Will often buries them in the replies. Important difference, imo. Combo of the two are why I follow and engage with Matt, regularly, but I have Will muted despite usually agreeing with his takes.

And also, if people don't like Matt they can just block him, and it said a lot that they don't. Specifically, what they want is for Matt to engage in a maoist self criticism struggle session

No—I just want him to stop weaseling about whether the layoff data is just a Fun Fact that says more about the gap between the map and the territory, or whether it actually reflects some way in that every single industry expert is getting things wildly wrong. I like data, I don’t like its abuse.

I just don't think you can expect somebody to change their mind just because you ask them to. It is fair to suggest that the data is ambiguous or doesn't measure important things, but that implies that the answer to the matter at hand is unknown, not that you are right.

less flippantly, a lot of the discussions he gets involved in turn in to fairly interesting examples of the way stats get distorted between "study measures a thing" and "people talk about that measurement"
