This is serious. If Reform blatantly, intentionally and knowingly broke election law, they should be held fully accountable. Liberal Democrats have asked the Police and the Electoral Commission to investigate.

Given that their aims have been to gain immense power through this in massively consequential ways, they really should face maximum penalties for this. This isn't a moderate issue. This is about conning an entire nation with the aim of obtaining personal power. It's time this was taken seriously.

This is the only story on the BBC website regarding Reform. You like to call a spade a spade...the national public service broadcaster that we all pay for is ignoring the biggest political scandal since party gate....why?

Yep...all roads lead back to the same dark influences from the American Christian nationalist right and Russia...I would bet my house on it. The polling firm in the expose are connected with the US CN movement...they are insidious and dangerous and everywhere.

I imagine they’ll do a copy-paste of the Brexit referendum “investigation” into illegal overspending and data use: EC will “refer the matter to the police to decide if criminal standards met”. Police will then say “no investigation as EC did not state clearly it was a criminal matter”.

No i wasn't - my reference was to the website which today is still very sparse and they could have had something on the website from 19:30 last night.

Chief Whip: Very serious. Hacker: I see. Chief Whip: Serious repercussions. Sir Humphrey: ...of the utmost seriousness. Hacker: Yes, that is serious. Chief Whip: I would say that it could hardly be more serious. Hacker: Well, I think we're all agreed, then, this is serious.

I wouldn't hold your breath with the Electoral Commission bsky.app/profile/sund...

Tone of the Electoral Commission response is not confidence-inspiring about its own role An Electoral Commission spokesperson said: "The law requires political parties to report ... "Information about any potential attempt to evade the controls on donations is for the police to consider."

I rather think that many Reform voters, those who fall for his ‘anti-establishment’ and ‘man of the people’ shtick, will be as shocked by the casual lunch meetings at Claridges, or over oysters and ‘black velvet’ (Guinness plus champagne, as Farage helpfully explains!) as about the grifting!

"If Reform blatantly, intentionally and knowingly broke election law... " Aren't you getting a little ahead of yourself here Ed? I'd love it if we could do a "gotcha" on Farage I'm no lawyer but it seems to me, from what has been released, that no crime has been committed. All I see is intent!

As I say, I am just an observer and all I see is intent. Are you saying “or is likely to facilitate” is an offence in itself? Interesting... the one thing that is or should be beyond doubt now is that they are all a bunch of immoral crooks willing to circumvent the laws. That is beyond clear!

I’m no expert but I read it that way. The heading of the section is “Offences concerned with evasion of restrictions on donations.” It’s not the receipt of an ineligible donation that’s the offence (other sections cover that) but the evasion of restrictions.
