This is the correct combination to persuade British voters. Euro is much more of a public opinion barrier than FoM. samf.substack.com/p/the-route-...

In the age of cashless payment I think this vastly overestimates the extent to which currency is an insurmountable psychological barrier to support for European integration among a large swathe of voters. If anything anxieties over Schengen and border control is probably the bigger challenge

Today, the 'euro barrier' to the UK rejoining the EU is not having to join the euro; it is arguing about any possibility of joining the euro (and the Stayouts being able to sway millions of votes by so doing).

That capacity to correct course is democracy’s great strength—but only while elections stay genuinely competitive and defeated incumbents accept the verdict. The safeguards matter as much as the vote itself.

I was having conversations with journalists just a few months ago about whether democracy was doomed. Look at this year: Orban defeated. Vukic defeated. Bolsonaro Jr defeated. Trump heading to likely defeat in midterms. That’s the beauty of democracy. Voters can respond. Don’t count it out yet.

Getting the best deal for Britain means being willing to discuss all the options. With freedom of movement now part of that discussion, there’s a real opportunity to make the case for the rights and opportunities it would give British people.

Freedom of movement gave British people the chance to work, study and build a life across the EU. Restoring it would open those opportunities again. Stella Creasy is right to call for a serious discussion about what it means for people and businesses.
