A lot of my infra workflows live in Slack threads, docs, or buried in shell history. That sucked. I've been building Atuin Desktop. Local-first, CRDT-powered, executable runbooks - with integrated terminals, sql queries + monitoring blog.atuin.sh/atuin-deskto... Lmk if you have any questions <3

Can I not check in a shell script and a readme and put the url to the readme in a monitoring alert? "When this alert fires, it's usually because of X. Run script A to get more info. See README." Some days 80% of my non-ctrl-R terminal is some kind of typo or flurry of situational grepping.

you can! but ensuring it's properly discoverable + kept up to date is an extra layer of process that is often missed if you're executing the documentation, it's obvious when things break + easy to keep them fixed. Vs iterating in a terminal and neglecting to update the doc/script

Big Atuin fan so I’m already half onboard. The pain point you mention is real and huge too, but not 100% I get the gag. Is the idea to have the kind of ‘executable documentation’ or like ‘marked-up scripting’ for ops stuff?

looks very cool. my colleagues and I are wondering about the execution env — from the recording it looks like it is executing the lines one by one, so it would stop if one of the commands fails and you'd see the output

thanks! currently there are two types of bash block 1. scripts (with custom shebang support) like a normal bash script. will behave as expected, stop when an error occurs, etc. Output can be captured as a variable in the runbook

2. terminals super different. the input is fed to the input stream for a background pty, so it's as if you'd typed it in your terminal yourself eg su foo sqlite ./blah.db select * from mytable; would give the output you might expect it to. Having it stop after a failed command requires...

...shell + terminal integration we haven't done yet. It is planned though! Terminals are fully interactive, pretty much like your normal terminal but in a doc
