In From Hierarchy to Intelligence, Jack Dorsey argues that a key role of middle managers is relaying information between employees and executives which can now be done using AI. It was controversial when Block laid off 40% of its staff, but this is becoming conventional wisdom among executives.

Vercel has built a Typescript to native binary compiler based on LLVM and now they use it to compile the Typescript compiler to native binaries. I didn't expect this 🤯

JP@ciantic.bsky.social

Vercel's TSC-TS is best of the new TypeScript compilers because it still uses TypeScript but compiles it to native code. It is what I hoped Microsoft would do, just make native compiler for subset of TypeScript, that way whole ecosystem benefits. Now we have Vercel's. github.com/vercel-labs/...

A very very interesting and recent book by Dr Cat Hicks ( @grimalkina.bsky.social ): Pyschology of Software Teams She makes a good case on how most companies/teams don’t understand how devs operate and think of devs as “brains in jars.” And now we have AI suddenly enter the room…

Clever use of EmbeddingGemma 2's shared 768d audio-text vector space by Shahir: matching audio segments directly against a text vocabulary turns an embedding model into a local speech-to-text engine that transcribes 1 hour of audio in 13 seconds on an M3 MacBook Air.

that basically explains why AI stuff blows it’s like auto-tune for ideas, like yeah you hit the note but you lose the subtlety, the richness, the soul

Now in niri-git: you can trigger niri hotkeys through VNC! This was a huge endeavor by Patrick Gaskin to rework virtual-keyboard (and -pointer) support in Smithay and niri to behave more like a regular keyboard. Many rounds of review with many edge cases discovered and fixed. #niri #smithay

I love working in healthcare because while Terry Tao is speculating about using Lean to prove that novel chemotherapy works I am getting actual emails from my employer announcing that they've newly implemented upper and lower limits for vital sign entry to prevent errors.

If you want to know what agents do these days: this took around 30-60 minutes of active prompting max. It’s a mobile iOS app that runs Python via WASM, ships ruff and ty, has a debugger and iCloud integration including a UI library inspired by solid and turtle. And a REPL.

If you’re looking for a business idea: i can’t find a single European provider for Firecracker VMs on demand that run on European non-hyperscaler servers. Koyeb comes close but they also use AWS. I need it for CI and know others with the same need.

Excellent piece by @seldo.com I’ve noted some connections on Semble: semble.so/url?id=https... imo protective, ‘fair source’ licensing applied sparingly is perfectly compatible with commercialized registries and helps draw clearer boundaries where there currently are none.

I have been writing this post about the economics of open source, on and off, for 13 years. I wasn't expecting to end up at "Microsoft should send corporations a huge bill" but nothing else we've tried has worked. https://seldo.com/posts/nobody-pays-for-open-source-we-can-force-them-to/
