We are going to spend the next few years finding out exactly *why* it was a horrible idea to unleash a tsunami of vibe-coded apps made by idiots and scammers on an unprepared world. Welcome to the Entirely Foreseeable AI Consequences Era.

The security breaches will be legend. Facilitated ironically by the same technology that allowed the inattentive to vibe code apps into production in the first place. I'm watching this happen in real time.

I imagine that this debacle with the Tea app will just be the tip of a looming and enormous nightmare iceberg of PII leaks and deadly accidents linked to criminally shit vibe code being inserted into a ton of our critical systems by barely-sentient techbros.

Between exploits like this and Musk running loose in the government, we are going to have to reinvent and reissue credentials to the whole population

Those ones are absolutely actually Russian hackers timebombing everything and exfiltrating all the data… but STILL vibecoding it all, so it's multiple fiascos. They mean to vibecode COBOL. Yeah have fun with that… these are not bright people and things got out of hand.

Don't forget also the part where those of us who told them from the beginning that this was a terrible idea are singled out and blamed for having told them it was a terrible idea instead of mucking in and making sure it worked!

(He says, writing what in retrospect is a post entirely intended to be related to this particular issue but also so generic it could be said about more or less any ill-advised endeavour that ends up hurting people in history...)

Wow. I assumed vibe coding was an insult but no it’s their term. Lolol sigh “There's a new kind of coding I call 'vibe coding', where you fully give in to the vibes, embrace exponentials, and forget that the code even exists."
