Imagine if instead of regulating drone risks the normal way (which we did), we instead paid weird bloggers lots of money to worry about superintelligent dogs sprouting thumbs and using drones to kill us. This is pretty much how the US is approaching AI risks and regulations. My latest:

It's amazing how the rationalists have basically just re-invented Calvinism for the AI age.

I saw a long Twitter thread once about how the basilisk cult was like, *exactly* Calvinism in every doctrinal particular Haven't been able to find it again, though

This is a silly question but it is worth bringing up. A lot of EAs are Jewish, and depending on who you ask, if you're Jewish you aren't Caucasian. I for one list Jewish as an ethnicity when asked on various census forms. What would this chart look like if you revise those findings?

Faine, is it possible to get a pdf of your Foreign Policy article? I’m. It sure I want to go for the subscription when that’s the only article I’m interested in.

"About 30% of respondents who reported attending a university reported going to a top 25 ranked university and almost 80% attended a top 200 ranked university."

i wonder if it would actually be possible to get eliezer yudkowsky genuinely worried about the thumb dogs with drones attacking humanity can anyone familiar with rat nonsense advise

Well one outcome of the basilisk is endless possibilities of the torment nexus so there is a non zero chance the 🐍 will create a simulacrum of humanoid dog fursonas manning UAVs. Actually someone should write this on AO3

On the record, I DO think AI has the potential to be extremely dangerous in terrifying ways that we need to research and anticipate: I also want a truly diverse set of people who aren’t all part of the same millenarian Silicon Valley doom cult doing that research and safety work.

I can't believe you're worried about thumb dogs piloting drones while we all know as a fact that thumb cats would murder us in our sleep.

🤔 How many of the 26.3% are camgirls getting paid by the 68.8%? One of those rooms where ya walk in, scan the participants, then nope right back out the door.

Isn't Effective Altruism, EA nothing else than just saying "I can be an asshole for now, as I plan to be nice later?"

There’s something about self-important assholes interpeting relatively normal texts that makes them all select the bits that make them the special ones. (Actually reading Calvin yields very different results than listening to Calvinist bros)
