I prefer modernity to the historical norm that is "most of you would probably have 'pooped self to death due to disease and malnutrition' on your headstones, but we just chuck you overboard anyway" as far as nautical life goes, Jennifer. Same with not having a fucking age of pirates and privateers!

I don't know... Another historical norm was that I could get kidnapped outside of a bar and pressed to serve in the Navy against my will. Is that bad or something?

This is weapons-grade stupidity. Not using antibiotics would also be a return to the historical norm, that doesn't mean it's remotely a good idea.

This is a dumb argument especially given the way it ended: with a war started by a psychopathic moron conducted by a religious maniac with zero thought given of the consequences. Just dumb.

So...basically it's fine that the United States surrenders one of its key strategic advantages because the author is "merely" nostalgic for the age of sail's politics. I can't tell if this is cope or if that think-tank the author is a fellow at is funded by pirates.

Ooh, she was a FedSoc guest speaker, might as well be wearing a tricorn and flying the Jolly Roger! (That think tank she works for is as sus as Colby’s Marathon Initiative—spotted one notorious Kremlin simp right off, & the rest are a collection of mid “Who?” types, & look at the founder’s resume!
