Got 'em: The @thebulwark.com added an editor's note to the review, acknowledging that the author's direct affiliation with the Foundation for American Innovation ("the foundation shaping the tech right," according to Inc.) created a conflict that should have been forthrightly disclosed.

Someone finally wrote a bad review of my book! Its argument: The tech bros are not fascists and we need not worry about them. Its author: a fellow at the Foundation for American Innovation (FAI). FAI's ideological godfather and treasured idol: Peter Thiel. 🫠

"American" and "innovation" are now trigger words for me. Where's that dang emotional support puppy gotten to? 🥴 #TheAIGrift bsky.app/profile/theg...

To understand AI and cryptocurrencies does not require technical expertise. To understand the absurdity of these technologies one need understand only that capitalism requires faith in perpetual innovation and productivity. The irony is this tech augurs the death of capitalism, not its resurgence.

oh, that's the group that the guy being quoted here works for. very normal people bsky.app/profile/samd...

The “head of strategic futures” at OpenAI just went on an unhinged rant against social security sometimes I feel like these tech companies are actively trying to alienate as many normal people as possible

The note downplays FAI's presence as one mention. But I spend most of two pages describing an FAI conference where the tech/MAGA alliance was revealed. The entire chapter—"The New Reality"—takes its name from that conference. In addition, multiple FAI fellows or board members are in my book.

On the bright side, this provides me with an opportunity to write more at length about the role of FAI. Which I will most certainly do.

On the Board of FAI: Mike Solana, a longtime Thiel deputy and propagandist, the literal chief marketing officer Thiel's Founders Fund.

Among the notable alumni, we find Michael Kratsios, longtime Thiel deputy currently serving at a high level in Trump's regime

Wow, so they not only lied about the organization's presence in your book, they were condescending and kind of bitchy about it

I find it hilarious that they say it's an unpaid role like that is exculpatory instead of worse. You might work somewhere you disagree with because you gotta eat, but choosing to spend your free time there means you're a true believer.

Wait, is that the same guy now working for The Ohio State U's Conservative Sinecure Center despite a notable lack of academic publications? Well, I guess this counts as one, to be fair...

If The Bulwark was aware of the writer's conflict of interest, why was the piece published at all? This all reads like a laundering of public opinion, not objective commentary.

Your book is revealing with quite accuracy the trajectory we are on right now. It’s helping us make sense of the dismal and isolated outlook the technofascist have for everyone. It’s also revealing how small and fanatical these guys are. I never knew Ayn F’ing Rand would have this much relevance 😩

This is very convincing. My random thought processes tonight, before reading this, were about just who is behind encouraging previously relatively benign 'tech giants' to get too big for their boots. It is orchestrated.

I’m certain they did a keyword search for mentions and nothing further because they relied on tech rather than rigor to assess the extent of their error. Lazy in exactly the ways tech fascists hope the average reader will be or become.
