gentle thought that big political "activist" accounts may not be worth your attention if they post lots of angry soundbites but never post any call to for practical action like calling your reps or supporting your local library or mutual aid group or doing anything other than scrolling and clicking

That's why I switched to youtubers like Sabrina Salvati (Sabby Sabs) she not only frequently has working class people on, but also uses her platform to do charity and mutual aid. Most political commentators are millionaires who never once use their influence for good except say donate act blue

Yeah, I think I’ll need to start weeding those out. Just writing over and over that we’re fucked and it’s hopeless isn’t productive nor helping my cortisol levels.

Agreed, Since the election I vowed to become more involved. I volunteer now at the grandkids elementary school and I am also attempting to volunteer at my local planned parenthood, which is surprisingly difficult. Bodily autonomy is a key issue for me.

There will be a special election for NY-21, Elise Stefanik’s seat. It’s an R+20 district, but in a special, we have a shot. I will be phone-banking for it. DM or comment if you would like to participate when the time comes.

I agree, though those actions aren't likely to do much against the full frontal assault we're going to be dealing with. How much longer do we think we're going to have libraries or representatives who take our calls, honestly?

Writing the WH. Both Harris & Biden. They let us down since day ☝️ Most especially hiring a DOJ head that couldn’t get justice for this country thereby putting us where we are today 😪

I find it very telling when they and their followers also pour scorn on even the idea of calling reps, supporting local institutions, or engaging in mutual aid. We should be outraged*, very outraged, but not actually do anything. *Most of us already got that part covered, thanks.

Most of the things they are voting on have *majority* support among ALL voters, e.g., background checks and assault weapons bans, congressional trading prohibitions, etc. They haven't seemed to care about majority views in many of those cases, but they should hear about it.

They used to hold open office hours, and I would attend. Nowadays, it's really hard to swallow my anger at what damage each of them has already done to the state and everything I care about.

He’s a total nut, but he will vote against his own Speaker at times and that will be incredibly useful in such a narrowly divided House. As few as two Republican defections can kill a bill this term!

I can’t tell if this post is a joke or not. The entirety of this video is premised on having representatives who are decent people and want to serve their constituents. How many of us live in maga-red districts whose representative were, say, election deniers? This just seems absurdly naive.

This. ^ Bluesky may be better than EelLawn’s cesspool of deplorables, but it has a big target on its back and the grifters have already moved in. If I don’t know you, or at least know who you are (e.g. Mr. Pak) there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to get blocked or at least not followed back.

you have some genuinely big accounts of cool people in here; they’re not “engagement farmers” just because their last couple of media posts didn’t have alt text

Yah I'm seeing a lot of people lately, especially Twitter refugees, talking about "doing THE WORK!" in their posts but never post anything about actual concrete action they're doing. "THE WORK!" apparently is criticizing other B'skers for not phrasing their posts in the way they like? 🙄
